I recently built a racing lawn mower and I removed the governor so I can get some more speed out of it but I need to install a tachometer so I dont blow the engine. Can anyone help me out? How would the tachometer hook up to the engine?
i know the idle RPM at about 1/3 throttle so i can probably figure out what size tachometer i need.
heh Charley thats funny but the blades have been removed ;) sorry

Answer
The tach is normally tied to the ignition coil, I believe on the NEGATIVE side, but you'll need to confirm this. It may depend on the tach itself. But usually it is the coil ground side it attaches to.

How fast could you make a lawn mower go and have it the blade still cut grass ?

Like if you were to trick out like a racing lawn mower but not to that extent

Answer
If you make sure that you increase the blade speed along with the drive speed and use stronger, higher quality mowing blades it's possible to trick it out and actually have it mow decently.

You just don't want to increase the drive speed and have the deck speed stock or what you mow will like sh*t. Take my advice about the blades though, I have a friend that hopped up his mower but lost a stock blade and nearly killed a friend when the blade broke!

Have fun but be safe. Peace!
