can i attach a bag to a mulching lawn mower?

sackman

i have a mower that mulches but I made a mistake i would like to pick up the grass. is there any way that a bag could be attached to my mower?

Answer
If it has an attachment for a bag you can add a bag. You will probably have to visit a dealer that sells your lawn mower to get the right back for your lawn mower.

My old lawn mower did both. To switch it from mulching to a bag mower you need to remove a large plastic plug that block the grass going to the bag. So make sure there is not a plug or something else that is blocking the path to the bag. Some lawn mowers have a mechanism that when you pull up on a leaver to attach the bag it opens the opening.

Is it better to mow your lawn with a mower that has a bag or without?

Do you rake your yard with a regular lawn rake in the spring and fall?
If you do this, by all means, continue to non bag a lawnmower.
I do have to make an exception. You must mow your lawn at a 2 1/2- 3 inch level weekly. Unless you mow your lawn more frequently and at a lower rate, or just do it when I can, use the bag.
A five to seven day period is max for the turf to grow and be trimmed. Set your mower height at near or at maximum to prevent crabgrass and weed germination. The amount of fert should ultimately decide you bagging.
If you fertilize, if you rake in both the early spring and in the fall, do not bag it. If you do not do either bag the stuff. To do both the fert and rake in spring and fall will allow you to topseed and remove thatch. Fert without the rake means you put your money on top of dead grass that will never reach the roots.
Maintain your lawn. A Bagger is a lazy excuse for poor maintenance. In over twenty years I have yet to use either a bag or collection device for my sixty acres of turf. My services and methods are in demand. Cut it, feed it, rake it twice a year.
