My Lawn Mower has no bag!!!?

Smiley

It has no bag. my cuz broke it and my father threw it out
what can I put on it so that I wont get hit when it accidentally grabs wood or other things
and I would also hate to leave the old grass on my yard again? any ideas?
I need it by today so no time to go get a new one.

Answer
Doesn't this thing have a door that closes over the hole? A garbage bag will not work because it has no place for the air to go. Try a large potato bag, or maybe even an onion bag if you have one on hand. Not sure how you will fit it on ? Better off to just rake it up when your finished.

How to put in a lawn mower bag?

Emmanuel R

I have a bolens side discharge lawn mower, & I'm trying to mow my lawn but I don't know how to get this bag in, it's opening is way smaller then any other bags I have ever had, plus it's a side discharge, if you guys know any videos that would help or know exactly what I'm dealing with please help, thank you.

Answer
Look to the manufacturer for what to do. Do it on-line.
Are you sure it's the right bag and just as important are you sure that mower is made for a bag.
You just cant make a mower into one that holds the grass if it's not already capable of doing that.

can i attach a bag to a mulching lawn mower?

sackman

i have a mower that mulches but I made a mistake i would like to pick up the grass. is there any way that a bag could be attached to my mower?

Answer
If it has an attachment for a bag you can add a bag. You will probably have to visit a dealer that sells your lawn mower to get the right back for your lawn mower.

My old lawn mower did both. To switch it from mulching to a bag mower you need to remove a large plastic plug that block the grass going to the bag. So make sure there is not a plug or something else that is blocking the path to the bag. Some lawn mowers have a mechanism that when you pull up on a leaver to attach the bag it opens the opening.

Is it better to mow your lawn with a mower that has a bag or without?

Kim M

Answer
Do you rake your yard with a regular lawn rake in the spring and fall?
If you do this, by all means, continue to non bag a lawnmower.
I do have to make an exception. You must mow your lawn at a 2 1/2- 3 inch level weekly. Unless you mow your lawn more frequently and at a lower rate, or just do it when I can, use the bag.
A five to seven day period is max for the turf to grow and be trimmed. Set your mower height at near or at maximum to prevent crabgrass and weed germination. The amount of fert should ultimately decide you bagging.
If you fertilize, if you rake in both the early spring and in the fall, do not bag it. If you do not do either bag the stuff. To do both the fert and rake in spring and fall will allow you to topseed and remove thatch. Fert without the rake means you put your money on top of dead grass that will never reach the roots.
Maintain your lawn. A Bagger is a lazy excuse for poor maintenance. In over twenty years I have yet to use either a bag or collection device for my sixty acres of turf. My services and methods are in demand. Cut it, feed it, rake it twice a year.

lawn mower wont toss grass into the bag?

HatchetMan

For some time my lawn mower has been having trouble cutting tall grass. It would start stuttering and then all of a sudden turn off. At first i thought it was because of the engine but after a bit i noticed that instead of throwing the grass into the bag it would toss it a bit more to the side and hit the rim of the entrance, and after a bit it would just clog the bags entrance causing it to stop and not even fill the bag more than halfway. Is there something i can do or tighten to the blades to make it toss right?

Answer
Make sure that you have the correct blade; a "bagging blade" has an upturned tip on the trailing edge. Make sure it is properly sharpened. Also, make sure the grass is dry to the touch. Too much moisture will cause cut grass to stick to the underside of the mower deck and clog the chute.

Can I sodder a bar to my lawn mower?

I bought an used lawn mower that has the option of bagging what you mow but it didn't come with a bag. I have a bag from a different lawn mower that would work great if I can attach a metal bar to my mower so the bag has something to keep it in place.

I've tried using JB Weld glue and it holds the bar in place for about 3 times mowing, but then the glue breaks. Wire welding the bar onto the mower would be a great option but I don't have a wire welder and I don't know anyone that does. Could I sodder the bar to the mower?

Answer
Probably not. Like the JB weld, it will not last.

You might try wrapping wire around the joint you're trying to establish, THEN use the JB weld. That way the JB is doing more of a job of keeping the wire wrapping in place while the wire does the job of holding the metal in place. OR make or buy a clamp that can hold the bar in place.

But why not get a mulching blade for your lawn mower? That way you don't have to worry about catching grass and filling up the land fill.

Hope this helps.

'av'a g'day mate.

Do you service your lawn mower and sharpen the blade at the end of the season or in the spring?

best lawn mower with bagging on Lawn Mowers Archives - TheLawnMowerReviews.com | TheLawnMowerReviews ...

Q. Are you using a mulching lawn mower, or are you still bagging the cuttings?

Answer
I was always told by the old men at the hardware store in my city that all good tools would last nearly a lifetime if they were cleaned properly after each use. So, always did that....and my children were glad to get all my gardening and other tools when I sold my house....they had all been top quality tools when I bought them, and I cleaned and oiled them after each use.

So, I think you should clean & service your lawn mower at the end of the season.

I liked bagging the cuttings. Would edge the lawn first...then blow all the edgings into the lawn. Then I would run the mower over the lawn....and have very little to "blow" later....as the mower picked up all the edging debris that had been blown into the lawn. I liked having the grass clippings to take to a large compost area in my back yard....where I was like an old witch brewing up my "special compost".

I think leaving the clippings in the lawn leads to poor aeration of the soil....creates a thatched barrier prone to mold as it decomposes. Just my opinion.

How do I choose a lawn mower?

no1gal

I have a slightly big backyard and the grass hasn't been cut since winter began, anywho, what type of lawn mower should I get? push/electric/gas? bag or no bag?... how hard is it to use a push lawm mower?
Thanks!

Answer
Get a gas powered rotary mower. You will have to decide if you want self propelled or not. Mulching mowers tend to clog frequently unless you mow frequently. If the grass is going to get any length between mowings you will not be happy with a mulching mower. Bags need to be emptied several times on a lawn of any size. Some mowers can go from rear bagging to mulching to side discharge just by changing some attachments. The new engines from Briggs and Stratton are as dependable as anything else, even Honda. One important thing to consider is how comfortable is the handle. Also check how easy it is to adjust the height. One final point, Don't buy a mower from Walmart or Home Depot. Go to a dealer with a parts and service department.

Need to buy a new lawn mower that is easy for a woman and/or adolescent to operate. Need easy start mechanism and easy operation of mower body.

Answer
Well, Consumer Reports just did a rating on lawn mowers in their May 2007 issue. It seems that the self-propelled mowers are much more repair prone than push types though they are easier to operate. Lawn Boy is reported as being the most repair prone push mower brand. Here are their best buys for small, level laws (like we have in CA) Cub cadet, craftsman, Black & Decker and Homelite. They seem to like the cub cadet because it is lighter, combines mowing with fine bagging and a premium engine. Among the electric mowers they like the Black & Decker.

The Toro, Craftsman and Yard Machines come with electric starting.

Can you provide advice on troubleshooting lawn mower problem?

shrill ala

My son's lawn mower runs fairly well, but cut grass no longer goes in the bagger; even dry grass just kind of clumps and is left behind. Any takers? We changed the oil, spark plug, blade, emptied the bag.

Answer
Engine speed fast enough?

Blade installed correctly? or backwards?*

Underside of the mower been cleaned?*

Mowing too fast?

Letting grass get too tall?

What are the hidden costs to the environment when these products were made?

Luis Resid

Tv, cars, lawn mowers, plastic bags, disposable beverage containers, hair dryers, aerosol spray cans, and pesticides. I need two hidden costs for each. Please tell me some.

Thank you.

Answer
Think about all the costs of getting rid of and transporting all this stuff when it's thrown out. Look at the impact on the environment collecting the raw materials, manufacturing and bringing all these things to market.

I want to mulch my lawn. Do I need a new lawn mower or can I just put a mulching blade on my old one?

The lawn mower I already have is a plain push mower. It doesn't have a side chute. So, if I keep the bagging chute closed and install a mulching blade, will it function as a mulching mower?

Or is there a lot more to mulching than simply having a mulching blade and keeping the chute closed?

Thanks!

Answer
Your bog standard push mower is no good for mulching. You'll have to get a new one with a mulch chute.
