Does a typical push lawn mower have a vertical or horizontal crankshaft? Could it be used on a go-cart?

Questioner

Also, if you know, how fast would a 5HP lawn mower engine move a go-cart?
I realize now that it has a vertical crankshaft. Would a snowblower engine 5-6 HP work better? If it does, why does the engine move the snowblower wheels very slow?....Would i also move the axel that slow?

Answer
If it is a typical law mower it has a vertical shaft and would be too much trouble to rig as a go cart motor, but it can be done. Just a lot of work to do it. Typical 5 hp brigs can run as much as 50mph or more, but it won't last long turning those rpm's. You would be better off just buying a Rupp engine with about 8 to 10 hp. Lot better engine than a briggs for a go cart.

how to build a go-cart with a lawn mower?

Answer
Buy a riding lawn mower and take the blade off. Now you have a crappy go-cart
