gasoline for lawn mower and oil?

Football I

do i just go to the gas station with like a tnk or w/e and ask em to fill it up
like a gallon container?
is that appropriate?
what bout oil

Answer
You buy an empty gas can at a store or possibly even the gas station. You then fill that up just like you would fill up your car. You do want to set the can on the ground, not leave it in your car or back of the truck when you fill it. As for the size it depends on the size of the of your mower and yard. If you have a typical push mower and a typical city yard a gallon can will likely fill up the mower 2x which should be maybe 3 mows. Most people would go with a 2 1/2 gallon can and that will likely only need to be filled maybe 2 times all summer. Gas does not like to sit for too long so if the gas station is not too far away a smaller can means it will stay fresher. If you have too much gas you can always dump it in your car so it does not sit over the winter and go bad. For oil check your owners manual but you can buy the oil at places that sell lawn mowers or auto parts stores.

lawn mower oil change?

shaneinpoc

what oil weight should i use for my craftsman 6hp B&S, ive always topped it with 5/20 but it needs a change now
thanks

Answer
Your manual should recommend an oil for it. Most mowers take STRAIGHT SAE30 (NOT multi-viscocity such as SAE10W30 for example) oil. You can get the oil from your hardware store or yet much cheaper from your auto parts store (remember, no multi-viscocity). On most mowers, you have to turn it to its side to get the old oil out then once drained, put the new oil in. While at it, check the spark plug, clean it and gap it, or replace it if necessary. Sharpen the blade using a file and you are ready to go for another season !

type of oil in 4-stroke push lawn mower?

Daniel B

I own a 4-stroke push lawn mower and am wondering do I put in regular car motor oil or a special oil?

Answer
Good quality motor oil (ie: Castrol) changed every 25-50hrs.

Oil change frequency/viscosity is dependent on your location/usage/filtered or not.
Neither this or the air cleaner are places to try and 'save' money - heard of false economy?

Never had a problem running Castrol GTX 20w50 multi viscosity oil although
Royal Purple 15w40 full synthetic has been the norm for the last 10yrs round here.

What are the consequences if I overfill with oil on a lawn mower engine?

I decided to get rid of some oil and i decided to change my lawn mower oil. I had some left and went ahead and poured the whole bottle in there. The oil level is just a bit higher than the "High" market. My engine is burning a little oil. How much can this damage my engine?

Answer
Being a little over full shouldn't cause damage. It may result in an increase in oil splash withing the crankcase which may allow some oil to enter the crankcase breathing tube. This oil will be drawn into the carby and may result in some smoke blowing or possibly some spark plug fowling. The engine my seem a little less powerful due to increased drag on the crankshaft caused by a higher than standard oil level.

What is the best way to remove engine oil from cement?

BuccoDoug

I need to remove some lawn mower oil from the cement floor of a storage unit.

Answer
You can use powder to remove the excess oil. I used sawdust and worked wonders. If you can't get your hands on some, maybe use cat litter dust or something like that. Once you remove the excess oil, use any liquid soap to clean it.

how do i fix a lawn mower that i forgot to put oil in.?

ok i didn't know that lawn mowers took oil. now i can't get the thing to start, i found the oil thing and put oil in it. so what do i do with it now? how do i fix it?

Answer
Turn it upside sown and try to turn the blade. If it will turn, the motor has not seized. Did it make a bad noise before it stopped working? If it did, you likely threw the rod and it will not work. Some mowers will shut down by themselves if they are low on oil before any damage is done. Once somebody gave me a mower that she said would not work. I took it home and took out the spark plug to check it. Oil began to run out of the hole. The entire engine was full of oil. That is why it would not run. Make sure that you have the oil to the correct level. Not too much, not too little.
You may be able to fix it.
I had a truck once. The oil plug fell out and I drove it without oil. The engine seized. I filled the case with "marvel Mystery oil" I let it set for a day, then began to turn the motor with a gigantic wrench. It broke free. I gave it a few more rotations and charged the battery. After that it started right up. I changed the oil and it has been running well ever since.
