I got a lawn mower from a second hand shop, so I don't have any documentation on my lawn mower, what do 2 stoke engines typically use?

A: Yes it uses 25:1 ratio regular petrol mixed with 2 stroke oil. Yes it is fully functional doesn't need anything but fuel to start mowing your lawn. Thanks

i want to put my petrol lawn mower engine on a go kart?

but the only thing is the choke and the accelerator are in the same how would i do this?

On go karts, typically a horizontal shaft motor ( comes out the side ) is preferable, can mount a small clutch to the motor, a chain to a rear sprocket on either a straight or differential type rear axle- keep in mind striaght axles turn like a Mack truck , not very good, while a differential will turn easily.
It is possible to use a standard verticle shaft motor ( comes out the bottom) - by using a single speed transaxle ( found on MTD tractors) and a go kart clutch or run some sort of right angle drive unit ( off a bush hog or field mower) to the axle.
To use the throttle setup, tractor racers use bicycle brake cables , a bicycle brake handle and a spring on the throttle plate to make it snap back closed - a pedal assy could be fabricated , just a longer cable would be needed. The choke might have to be made into a manual type - add a short piece of metal where you can reach it, then use a spring or latch to hold it open when its running.

Lawn Mower wont start please advise?

i have a Briggs and stratton lawn mower and ive used it about 5 or 6 times.... i went to start it today and its like it wont turn over...i pulled the cord and and just wont turn over gas and oil are both good please advise

Is the petrol cut off switch open? Have you checked the spark plug cover is attached? Is the engine flooded? maybe bring the throttle back off the choke or just adjust it a little if you can smell fuel or it feels heavy to start? Are you holding the drive handle instead of the dead man's handle (I have forgotten that once or twice)? Is the blade clogged up (if so be careful to switch it off before checking or putting your hands in)?

I have a brand new lawn mower (4 stroke petrol). It ran for 5 minute and then died. I just now realised it had too little oil in it. I onl had about 50 ml of oil instead of 600 ml. Do you think this could be a problem? When I pull the starter string I get a 'slightly mettalic' knock rather than a regular muffled knock?

yea i think you scored the walls and fried everything in the engine if i were you i would bring it back and play dumb and hopefully get new one

yea i think you scored the walls and fried everything in the engine if i were you i would bring it back and play dumb and hopefully get new one

cut straight or run rough then cut out
the other answers sound good
if briggs stratten old style no primer two inlets for petrol low and high filter blocked had that happen,
same motor little later had auto choke might not be operating correctly.
if the motor basic still but with primer bulb and not priming properly might not get enough petrol in carby to get going and cuts out.
try these if not that take it to a shop very hard as question while all there so much more needed to be said some one else could have said ok that is !

How do I repair my 4 stroke Lawn Mower and its ignition coil?

I have a 4 stroke Lawn Mower from G.M.C and it now doesn't want to start. I now have 2 problems when I only had one before. The first problem was that it wouldn't start despite having petrol and having the sludge removed from the deposit cup on the carburetor and having spark from the plug..

I now have a 2nd problem and now there is no spark coming from the plug after testing the lead with another plug. I have removed the top housing from the lawn mower and noticed it has a coil that contacts with the part that revolves after pulling the starter string.
The surface does look a bit rusted all around, where the flywheel is on top of and where the coil has contact with. It has a powdery surface that is somewhat slightly rusted.

MIGHT TRY cleaning the surfaces of the magnets on the flywheel & the surface of the "coil " with emery cloth ( sand paper )...and also, there is a aluminum key in the fly wheel & crank shaft,
its purpose is to shear if the blade hits something. If its only sheared a LITTLE BIT, you'll not have any spark

Where can I buy an ignition coil for 4 stroke lawn mower?

I have a 4 stroke lawn mower from G.M.C and this thing just doesn't want to start after letting it out in the rain a number of times. I have cleaned the deposit cup from the carburetor, petrol in the tank, and have checked the plug for a spark which did have a tiny spark. I tested it with another plug and had no spark and placed the original one back in and no longer a spark.

I removed the top housing and realized that the coil has a contact with the part that revolves when the starter string is pulled.
Also can I just use the existing gaskets and seals by tightening the nuts a little tighter to ensure a firm contact on surface?

give a light rub / clean between the contacts with fine dry " wet n dry " paper .. do not do any adjustments with the rotor and contacts with spanners or drivers ... buy new plug .. spray all electrics with " CRC ".. good soaking ..wipe excess off then allow to dry ...prime carby ready to start ...put engine ready on compression stroke ... spray some " Aerostart " in carby throat ... wait a few seconds ... try starting ...

as for the gaskets ..if not broken smear some general purpose grease or a light application of non hardening silicon on both sides before re assemble ... seals ... liberal coating with clean engine oil ... do not over tighten nuts ...up firm .. then 1/4 more turn should be enough ...
