This is my first year doing lawns for several people as a business. Most are residental, however a few are small commercial jobs. I want somthing with power that I can depend on definetly Self Propelled with a bag. I want it to get threw anything I need it to get threw and self propell VERY well... Should I get rear wheel drive? I have been looking at a few 7.0 Craftsman with the briggs and straton that has variable speed control for about $375.00 and has the key start option.. or was looking at a few Hondas at Home Depot but they well about 600.00 and didnt have as many features or seem to have as big as a motor.. What should i get? I dont want to spend ALOT of money on this....Somthing on a budget

I would not get a Craftsman. They are not the most rugged machines around. The engine on any mower is about the same. Almost all push mowers use Briggs And Stratton or Tecumseh motors. The differences between mowers is the strength of the deck, the wheels and the height adjustment on the wheels. Its a common marketing scheme to put a more powerful motor on a light duty frame. A real commercial duty mower will have a stronger frame, grease fittings on the wheels, a large fuel tank and a better handle than a home owner's mower. Some brands to consider are Scag, Bobcat, Toro, Cub Cadet and Exmark.

Any way to make a lawn mower quieter?

I have a gas powered push lawn mower, and it is a bit noisy. It is a 4 horsepower Briggs & Stratton. Is there any way I could lower the noise that is produces when running? Thanks in advance!
Answer
You should be able to find an after market muffler at a small engine repair shop. I got one adapted from a Honda to fit my 5HP Briggs, big difference. The blade can also be noisy, especially the mulching blades. If you don't need the mulching effect, get the straightest blade with the the least amount of lift. Your repair shop should know what I'm talking about. RScott
