What are the best headphones to use while mowing?

I do a lot of lawn mowing on a riding lawn mower, and would really like to be able to listen to music while mowing. What are some good inexpensive ($50 or less) over ear headphones that would block out the sound from the mower so that I don't have to crank up the volume too loud?

The HD200 series headphones are of good quality apart from the cheapest 201 which isn't a great success by Sennheiser standards, and includes models like the 215 and 218 used in many professional studios..
215 on here 7 lines down and I now have some 570s....whooopeeeeeee!

There are also the 300, 400 etc series headphones with the some of the 600 series phones costing over $300, and the extra special limited edition electrostatic headphone and matching amplifier individually hand built and matched to be perfect partners ...as near as possible with current technology.

It's only rival for sound quality is the Stax Omega 11 for the price of a couple of decent ride-on lawnmowers but the Sennheiser HD800 comes close enough to the Stax for a third of the price.

My favourite ( back to affordable kit) is the HD570 Symphony headphones but they are now discontinued and hard to find ( took me months to track some down) , and I also use the HD 580 and HD595 for serious listening, and the HD500 as everyday big phones, which all completely cover the ears and keep external noise at bay reasonably well, and the smaller HD25 for traveling....the same model as was used on all Concorde flights...which are also good at suppressing external noise but don't cover the ears completely like the 205 and the others mentioned.

You can also get noise canceling headphones but those that work well tend to be very expensive.

I am looking for something to deaden the roar of the lawn mower but I don't want to have to turn them up to mind blowing volume. Does anyone know if active noise cancelling headphones will do this? Any suggestions (active NC or sound isolating) will be appreciated.

Noise cancelling earphones work extremely well if you buy the right kind. They tend to run pretty expensive but I tell you right now it is definitely worth it if you have the money. Go to Radio Shack some day and bring a player with you with your regular earphones... ask them to let you try one of their decent sets of noise cancelling and just see the differents. It's something. I'm always yelling at people 'cause I can't hear my own voice. Haha.

Do beats solo cancel out lawn mower noise at all?

Just want to know, I just got a new riding lawn mower and was thinking of getting beats to listen to music while I cut the grass. Does it cancel out lawn mower noise?

No noise canceling headphones will totally cut out any particular kind of noise. But they do work by analyzing noise and so that they can create that same noise, out of phase to cancel most of it out. So they answer is that yes it will reduce the noise to some degree.

But one thing to think about before you drop all that money on those expensive headphones. All noise canceling headphones hurt sound quality because they have to pump out the noise you are trying to block (out of phase) to cancel out noise. So sound accuracy goes out the window, and sound quality takes a hit.

Do you really want that? Just buy the best headphones that you can afford that cover your ear, they naturally block out some sound because they cover your ears, but don't hurt sound quality.

Bottom line, there's no free lunch, you have to give up something to get something.

My little brother is deathly afraid of movie theaters. He went once but the loud speakers scared him so much, and he's never gone back. However there is a movie coming out that he really really wants to watch :D We were thinking of getting him a pair of noise reduction headphones, but we're not sure if they'll work D: He doesn't want to completely eliminate the noise, but just enough so it would freak him out.
Do any of you know if an affordable pair will be good enough to do the job?

When I wear a pair of ear-muffs whilst mowing the lawn,I can still hear the mower but at a very reduced level.I think that this may also work quite well with your brother's problem.

Bose QC3 headphones good at filtering out EXTERNAL sounds?

I live in an condo complex with some very inconsiderate neighbors who play their music as loudly as they please. I have a white noise machine, but it doesn't really help with the bass. The bass is what's driving me crazy. Talking to these people doesn't work because one is literally out of her mind, and the other just seems to not really care. I have foam earplugs (STC 30) from Home Depot, but they don't really do much to filter out the bass other. I was curious if anyone has tried the Bose QC3 headphones in an attempt to filter out noises like that. Does it work well?

The Bose QC3 and Bose QC2s do an awesome job filtering acoustic noise such as a jet engine, a lawn mower, ect. If suppose you had some music through the QCs it might help you. The best thing you could do is try them. Bose offers a 30 Money back policy for you to try them out. How ever in this case id suggest the Bose QC2s.

What kind of headphones should I get?

I like to listen to music as I mow the lawn, but my headphones always blow a speaker because I have to have the volume up all the way to cover the sound of the mower. What kind of headphones should I get? I've been told several times by the people I've asked to avoid "ear bud" style headphones as they don't block out incoming sound. I've also been told to get Bose brand headphones because they are the best, but I'm assuming they are also very pricey.

But you get what you pay for, so what headphones should I get?

I use skullcandy earbuds. They actually cut the noise down probably more than I should when I'm riding my motorcycle, but I can still hear horns and stuff, just not nearly as much wind noise. These are in the ear type, so if you don't like that, then they might not work for you. I also have a set of JVC earbuds that are a little better, but they don't make them anymore. V-Moda also makes good in the ear type earbuds. You can get any of these for between 40 and 70 dollars (depending on the exact style). I think skullcandy and v-moda also make more expensive ones, but that was my price range and they work real well in that price range.

Good Headphones for blocking outside noise?

I need a relatively cheap pair of headphones that I can wear without my lawn mower's engine drowning out the sounds. Also, I want a pair of headphones in which I don't need to turn the mp3 player volume all the way up. What are some cheap, but most importantly effective pairs of headphones that will solve my problem?

I have a pair of Shure's E2Cs that I really like. They're a few years old but you can probably find them on amazon. Not sure about using them to cut the grass but they drown-out a screaming kid next to me on a cross-country flight with my ipod at about 70%.

I like that they are earbuds, obviously smaller than those cans that go over your head and make your ears sweat. Most buds aren't comfortable for me but these are great. And with the foam covers (mine come with 3 types) they are super comfortable and block most of the noise.
