how can we measure calories in food ? and how to measure burning calories while exercising?

peter12345

Answer
A calorie is a unit of energy. We tend to associate calories with food, but they apply to anything containing energy. For example, a gallon (about 4 liters) of gasoline contains about 31,000,000 calories. You could drive a car 22 miles (35 km) on the calories in 217 Big Macs

If we look at the nutritional label on the back of a packet of maple-and-brown-sugar oatmeal, we find that it has 160 calories. This means that if we were to pour this oatmeal into a dish, set the oatmeal on fire and get it to burn completely, the reaction would produce 160 kilocalories (remember: food calories are kilocalories) -- enough energy to raise the temperature of 160 kilograms of water by 1 degree Celsius. If we look closer at the nutritional label, we see that our oatmeal has 2 grams of fat, 4 grams of protein and 32 grams of carbohydrates, producing a total of 162 calories. Of these 162 calories, 18 come from fat (9 cal x 2 g), 16 come from protein (4 cal x 4 g) and 128 come from carbohydrates (4 cal x 32 g).

Our bodies "burn" the calories in the oatmeal through metabolic processes, by which enzymes break the carbohydrates into glucose and other sugars, the fats into glycerol and fatty acids and the proteins into amino acids . These molecules are then transported through the bloodstream to the cells, where they are either absorbed for immediate use or are sent on to the final stage of metabolism, in which they are reacted with oxygen to release their stored energy

⢠Type of activity. The best exercises for burning fat are those which can be done continuously and involve the most muscle groups (especially the large muscles of the hips and legs). The more muscles used, the more fat you will burn. Exercises which involve movement for brief spurts followed by rest (even through they may be strenuous), use sugar - not fat - as their primary fuel source.
How to Burn Approximately 100 Calories
(Estimated for a 120 to 150-pound healthy person)

Activity Time in Minites

clean/vacuum/mop floor 25-35 min
wash dishes/iron clothes 45-50 min
mow lawn (self-propelled mower) 25-30 min
mow lawn (manual mower) 12-15 min
garden (spade/roto-till) 10-20 min
rake leaves 20-25 min
wash/wax car 20-25 min
wash windows 20-30 min
paint (brush) 35-40 min
shovel snow 10-15 min
blow snow 15-20 min
stack firewood 15-20 min
walk (brisk) 15-25 min
tennis 20-25 min
golf (walk course) 20-25 min
cycle (5.5 mph rate) 20-30 min
cycle (9.4 mph rate) 15-20min
aerobics (medium) 20-30 min

Caution:these guidelines are for healthy individuals. Heart disease patients should confer with their physicians before starting any new exercise regimen.

I would like to know how much for a small yard, medium yard, and large yard. (there is alot of medium yards in my neighboor hood)

Answer
Hello
It depends on how large the yard is . i would say for a medium sized yard i would charge at least $35.00 for a large yard $45.00 & an extra large yard $55.00. You want to be able to fix the tractor if somethingg goes wrong with it. Also you need to provide the oil & gas so i believe these to be good prices. Good Luck

Above link is to the Pic of droppings

Facts: droppings are dark. about an inch long and almost everyone has a white portion on the end.
They afe in one area only...about a foot diameter.

Place:
In a small enclosed room behind our garage
Where the hot water heater and air conditioner are.

Conditions: There have been a lot of bugs around our house including many many garden variety spiders that have huge webs, because our lawn this year has been cut infrequently, due to lawn mower breaking 3 times.

Other info: Live in North Georgia.
Have never seen rat or mouse droppings anywhere indoors.

We sealed off every pipe or electrical entrance to his room 2 years ago.
The outside door to this room is well sealed we believe.
The inside door leads to the garage and it has no door sweep.
However we have not found any of these droppings in the garage yet.

My husband was in this room 2 -3 weeks ago to get the weed eater and there was no dropping then. It was also much warmer oit.

We are not sure if its snake, lizard, rat or mouse or other. I've included a pic. As you can see almost every piece has white on it. My dad says mouse, my husband says snake or lizard and my neighbor says bat.

Thank you all.

Answer

Gardeners/homeowners, please help with landscaping of new home...?

best lawn mower medium garden on Accessories Tractor Seat Cover, Medium - Lawn & Garden - Tractor ...

Fedora gir

We are first time homebuyers, and got a beautifully landscaped front yard, and back yard.
Now, we don't know the first thing about gardening, but are willing to learn.
What are the first tools we need? We don't even know about hoses, lawn mowers, etc. Please give us the names of the tools we need immediately, and brand names.
When I go shopping, I just get overwhelmed by the different brands out there.
So, initiate us into the world of gardening.

p.s. We have 3 rose bushes in the front, that are too tall and we want them to go. Lots of bushes in front that we want to select and weed out some. Want to spread grass under some trees or shady area. I know these are lots of questions, but someone can answer one or all. Thanks.

Answer
If you have a large yard you need a riding lawnmower, if it's small you can use a walk-behind mower.
A garden fork, small pruners, & a bigger heavy-duty bush pruner would be my first picks followed by a rake, shovel, hoe & an inexpensive spreader that you walk behind. The spreader doesn't have to be anything fancy; it's just something to save time & help you spread the grass seed more evenly. You can use the heavy-duty garden fork to dig up the plants that you don't want. If you want to put in a plant, the fork can be used for digging without compacting the soil for better drainage & you can use it tilted sideways to break up clumps. Your plants may need trimming so the pruners help. If you have large bushes, you'll eventually need a hedge trimmer. If you have an electrical outlet nearby your bushes, an electric hedge trimmer would be handy & convenient. You'll need a heavy-duty extension cord that'll reach to your bushes. If you have really large bushes that you're taking out, a chain-saw would be easier & faster than trying to do it any other way. Small bushes can be cut down with a heavy-duty bush pruner & a pruning saw.

Don't forget the grass seeds & either the biggest hose you can get or several medium size hoses which connect together to reach the space you have to water.
Good luck on your gardening adventure! Hope this is helpful.
