Advice on buying a lawn mower?

I've never used a non-self-propelled lawn mower, but they are cheaper than the self-propelled ones and I am trying to save money. Would a gas-powered pull-start non-self-propelled lawn mower be too strenuous for a 50-year-old woman to use? What other things should I look for in a lawn mower? Our lawn is about 1500 square feet and very level.

Answer
It All Depends on the mower Some are easier to start than others. Really I Would go With what you are used to. Most towns have a "handy" man who takes older mowers and fixes them, Ask Around and See if you can buy a cheap Self propelled from him/her. You also Need to think About do you want a Bag-er, Mulch-er or one that just Spits the cut grass. if you want your yard to be Super clean looking you want to bag it however if you Get a Mulch-er it Will cut the grass in small enough pieces that you can't really tell you did not bag. I am 31 and REALLY like the Self propelled, My husband laughs @ me cause I will only use the one with it But it makes mowing so Much easier and seems to go a bit faster. Good Luck and I hope this helps

Which is cheaper in the long run? An electric or gas lawn mower?

Also, what are the pros and cons of each? We just purchased our first home and need to mow the lawn ASAP, but have no clue where to start looking for the information to help us make a decision. Thank you!

Answer
There are definitely pros and cons of each. I will not buy an electric cord mower because of the cord dragging around the yard and the fact that they are less powerful (lower hp, really lower torque). When your grass is thick or very long the extra power from a gas mower is definitely appreciated. I have not tried the battery powered and seems to be a novel idea because of the low noise. Not sure about the power associated with the battery powered. I have owned several gas mowers and have not ever had to mix oil and gas for the mower, so really just keeping a gas can around is the only issue.

The things I would look at is the size of your yard, any hills, location of electrical outlets.
