lawn mowers?

THERESA LE

I cant decide which mower to purchase. I want to know rear wheel vs. front wheel, and how good are personal pace mowers. Im considering a toro.

Answer
Since you are considering a self propelled mower, I have found that stopping a rear wheel drive requires disengaging the drive wheels (may be as simple as releasing a lever, but still an active motion) while stopping a front wheel drive is as simple as lifting the front wheels off the ground (pushing down on the handle raises the wheels, the same action you use to turn the mower), the wheels still turn but don't pull the mower.
Unless you are interested in demonstrating your physical prowess, the self propelled mower makes the job a lot easier, especially in the tall weeds.
For features, consider a rear bagger unit which can bag the clippings, or bag left detached can mulch the clippings.
Also think about starting options -- look for an easy start (push a primer bulb 5 times and pull the starter cord) or an electric start (battery or 110v) which takes the muscle out of it.
Or if you have a small plot, consider the new cordless electrics which are lighter, no starting, and "green".
--------
Bin There, It is helpful to read the question and who is posing it. I could be wrong, but I somehow don't believe that THERESA LE V will be begging her wife for a new one. . .

who makes craftsman lawn mowers?

cloudy53

Answer
All Gas Powered Lawn Mowers (except one) are manufactured by Husqvarna. The Limited Edition Series w/ the Honda engine is manufactured by MTD. All of the Craftsman tractors are manufactured by Husqvarna. The Craftsman Professional Series is split about 50/50 between Husqvarna and MTD. In previous years, Craftsman mowers have been manufactured by AYP, Murray, and Electrolux

How can I make my dog not afraid of the lawn mower?

creepingde

We Don't know what caused her fear of the lawnmower, but as long as she can hear one running, particularly bad when its in our yard, she convulses, tucks her tail and hides. she's a VERY obedient Black Lab / English Shepard mix, but when the shed that the mower is contained in is brought out, she doesn't acknowledge whistling, her name, anything. What can I do to help my dog get over this fear? will she need veterinary attention to do so?
Well, for starts, putting my dog inside, in the room furthest from the the yard with loud music on before the shed door even opens, as soon as the music starts she convulses. she's afraid of nothing else, and letting my dog have a panic attack each time the mower is on (or my neighbors mower) seems ridiculous. i asked about veterinary assistance, not saying my dog would be medicated for it or anything, but only because i have NO idea how to help her. Thought it might be able to help her. When the mower is operated, the dog isnt allowed anywhere near it, and all of us involved are careful to pay attention to where things are. she's safe, but still has anxiety issues, wont eat or respond to any sort of attention or call or anything.
in the last additional segment, i meant to say as soon as the MOWER starts, not music.

Answer
Maybe start feeding her next to the lawn mower while it is off. Buy a CD that plays a lawn mower-like sound, and play it on repeat for a couple of days in the house, steadily increasing the volume of it. ...This one might make you go a little crazy, though. :)

If it were me, I'd just make sure the dog was safe and crated in the house before mowing the lawn. Don't respond to her fear, because that only reaffirms that it is okay to be afraid of the object, and will cause her to be more afraid of it.

Maybe you could start NILIF training. It may help her lawn mower anxiety by proving to her that since you are the alpha, you will protect her from that "big crazy monster." :)

how do you make a rideing lawn mower.........?

josh w

how do you make a rideing lawn mower, run 50 0r 60 mph. i see them race on tv and stuff but i dont know how the do it. because i got a 5 hp moter on my go kart tha runs 30 and a 18 hp mother on my lawn mower, and i know it shold do at least 50 or 60. someone tell me wat to do.....

Answer
First, ya gotta take the mower deck off. Then you have to disconnect the governor to allow the engine to run at higher RPM's. Then you have to replace the blown engine with one that is designed to run at a high enough RPM, like a snowmobile engine. Then buy enough life insurance to pay for your funeral. If you are serious about racing your lawn mower, wait until you see another lawn mower race and check out the sanctioning body for these races. Should be something like "NALMRA" or something close to that.

How can you make your own lawn roller/striper for push mower?

baseball5

Has anyone made this before and do you have any ideas or tips? I can only find information on the web for making it for a riding mower. Thanks

Answer
Here's some basic rules to follow when you make one. You want to make one that rolls not one that you drag behind. You'll end up dragging the cut grass. It will need enough weight to bend the grass. It will need to be as wide as your mower's blades. Attach the roller to your mower's arms at the lowest point just above the deck with metal or wood bars, not chains. It could roll into the blades that way when you have to back up. your mower will have to have a bagger or mulching blades with the side covered. Throwing cut grass over the area you just rolled will loose it's look.

3" Schedual 40 PVC pipe filled with concrete with a 1/4" steel screw bar set in the center is a good way. 3" steel pipe thats 1/4" thick is also a good roller.

Answer
It sounds like you turned the mower upside down and got oil in the cylinder. I would pull the plug out and pull it a few times then put the pug back "clean it first". Try and start it.

I just bought a new Husky lawn mower and when I use the self-propel feature, it makes a noise like metal scraping metal. The oil level is full. Is this normal? Might it go away after using it a little bit? Thanks.

Answer
It sounds like it could be a loose flywheel.

Lawn mower makes a loud clanking sound when its running?

Harp Bassi

I hit a rock while I was cutting the grass, now the lawn mower when its running is making a loud clanking sound. The blade is not hitting the deck underneath. It seems like it is from engine. When I pull the rope I hear a clank. Any ideas

Answer
I have a similiar problem - not sure if it is exactly the same. You may be in a better situation. There is a rod underneath that connects to the blade. It is likely that this rod has been knocked out of place (warped). It leads to the clanking sound and vibration. That is depending upon how big the rock was and how much damage it was able to do. Check to see if it vibrates a lot when you start it. If it does as well then the rod might be bent out of place.

I checked with my warranty people and they reffered me to a local shop. At the local lawnmower repair shop he stated that this repair would not be in the warranty since it is considered neglect and not normal wear and tear. (I got similiar information from the Home Depot Manager - he was not sure if that was the case but he did cover it with me). The guy at the repair shop stated that it was not worth fixing. That I might as well go and buy another mower.

My blade is not hitting - I did put a new blade on since the old blade was warped. Which of course increased the vibration making it much worse - really showing me the problem.

Hi, and thanks for looking. I am currently doing a hot rod riding lawn mower, and I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to make alterations to such a lawn mower, to make it street legal, and registered. I have looked far and near on Google, to no avail. If you could even just tell me the keywords I might use for better results, that would be great! I know it seems a little far out, but so am I. Thanks for looking!

Answer
No, it is Not possible

Why does my lawn mower make a screeching noise when I start it, and how do i fix it.?

I have a craftman push lawn mower. I can start but the noise is unbearable.
I have checked all possiblities on the exterior parts of lawn mower.

Answer
Have you made sure there isn't a piece of string or rope wrapped around the blade? You might wanna check that before you burn the engine up.
