I have a 30 year old Lawn-Boy Mulch-R-Catch 8671 lawn mower that used to belong to my dad. It is currently having some problems. Is it worth repairing...or should it be replaced? Are new lawn mowers better than old lawn mowers? Is there any new technology out there? Have lawn mowers changed at all?

Answer
The advantages of new technology, easier and more reliable methods to cut the grass, plus a better cut lawn would suggest replacing an old lawn mower, especially as sometimes spare parts are hard to find.

How Is it possible to burn out all the oil in a lawn mower in 6 months?

Bought a Poulan lawn mower in April filled it with oil and started mowing, and burnt out the engine, it has a 1 year warranty. Repair shop said they won`t replace or repair under warranty, plus we owe them for the service.

Answer
You should check the oil level every time you start the mower.

The repair shop isn't trying to "screw" you. The oil may not have burned out, but if you had a leak, it could have leaked out.

Running a lawnmower without oil will destroy it in about 3-5 minutes, less if it's really hot.

Chalk it up as a life lesson, and read and study the owner's manual more carefully the next time.
