My topic is Technology and how it has improved our lives?

What should i put on my powerpoint?

Answer
This is a very wide topic, so there's plenty you could discuss...here are a few ideas:

1. Communication: telephones (especially cell phones) and the internet (email, social networking sites) have vastly improved this area of our lives, both from a social aspect and from an economic one. Technology has made our world a lot smaller than it must have seemed say a hundred years ago. The ability to be in the USA and yet be able to send an email or text instantaneously to somewhere like the UK, Australia or South Africa is amazing and means that theoretically the entire world is open to businesses. Socially, we can keep in contact with so many more people much more easily, whereas in the past it would have been far more difficulty to keep on touch with family or friends who moved even to the other side of the country, let alone overseas. You can talk to someone who lives thousands of miles away instantly.

3. News and Politics: The internet and 24 hour TV and news channels mean that we can keep up to date on current events as their happening no matter where in the world they're happening. We don't have to listen to the radio or even worse, wait for the newspaper to be published the next day to learn about these things anymore. Imagine 150 years ago, how slow news must have reached places, say if a war was being fought thousands of miles away - the Ancient Greek myth about Marathon illustrates this. These days we know as soon as something is happening and can watch in real time, such as with the 9/11 attacks. Further to this, we're far more aware of events in other countries such as the events in Syria at the moment, and in the past few years Egypt, Libya, the Japanese earthquake and tsunami...it means we're not nearly as insular as we once were.

24 hour television and social networking sites have also changed the way politics work and the way in which campaigns are fought these days. These are all mediums that can be used by politicians to connect with the everyday citizen, which can work in their favor, but can also mean that news of their every little faults and mistakes travels much faster and far wider than it might have once done. People can also share opinions far more easily than they once could.

3. Health: In comparison to even fifty years ago it's obvious that technology has radically transformed this area of our lives. New technology means new research into diseases and cures. Just looking at the survival rate for premature babies these days demonstrates how far we've come. Things like CAT scans, ultrasounds and life-support machines have changed everything. We now have better survival rates for illlnesses and diseases that once would have meant a death sentence, and therefore our life expectancies are much longer.

4. Travel: Fifty years ago not many people would have been able to travel outside of their state, let alone outside of the country, but these days you can be anywhere in the world within 24 hours using a plane. We're far more culturally aware because of it, and the free movement of people around the world means we're also much more socially diverse than we once were; just think of all the foods you enjoy, like Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese, Thai, Italian. The internet and television mean we can also learn a great deal about other cultures and places without even having to leave our homes. It all makes for a much richer life.

5. Everyday lives: vacuums, stoves, fridge-freezers, dishwashers, washing machines, food processors, microwaves, lawn mowers, cars, hair-dryers, online shopping...these days we have to do far less work in terms of our everyday lives than we once had to. You can get home late from work and cook a meal in a microwave in a few minutes, whereas once preparing a meal would have taken hours. Cleaning a house is far easier too. It's no longer a full time job. Instead of washing clothes and dishes by hand, you can put them into machines and go off to do something else while the machine does all of the hard work.

I hope these ideas help, and good luck!

What causes racism...............?

Q. I won't thumbs down you if you're not PC on this answer. I think it's impossible to be PC in this discussion. Just be as honest as you can.

Answer
I found out this amazing fact. Remember we were taught that parents taught there children to to racists? But now in this age what decent parent would say anything negative about a person because of race, yet I've found out that young school children come home complaining about Blacks and Mexicans in their classes. We all went to school with a variety of races and couldn't care less, now all of a sudden a new racism is appearing. I do live across the street from Mexican people who have a different people living with them all the time. The house is small, and they have 3 trucks, 3 work vans, and huge trailer to pull lawn mowers and a SUV. They crowd the street so it makes its almost impossible to enter or leave my driveway, as they have two work vans parked right behind my driveway. They all speak Spanish, and most of them were born here. The children never associate with any White children or will even speak to them. It's like they have their own separate country. I think the Mexicans now days want to be Mexicans, and have their allegiance to Mexico and disdain Americans, and the Black kids at the school are from Africa and are mean to the White kids. So, when we all thought racism was something from the old South, I find it's all starting over again, but the shoe is on the other foot. The White kids are upset by the way they are being treated by the Mexicans and Blacks. Now these are Mexicans which have just arrived here, and Blacks from Africa, so no old stereotypes exist here. It's alarming and shocking. I hate it, but it's now a fact of life. P.S. I was married to a Mexican and his family were the greatest people I've ever known in my like, including the girl with spinal bifida. They had a really hard time of it, but were so gracious and wonderful and didn't even talk bad about me when I stupidly left him. That was the biggest mistake of my life.
