Briggs&stratton quantum engine can it misfire if has old spark plug or if the timing is off?
Answer
Yes, any combustion engine can misfire. Check your plug condition and gap. If okay check to see that your spark plug wire is firmly attached to the top of the plug and not bouncing around. Not sure if this is a multiple cyclinder engine or not but be sure to do the same for all of the remaining cylinders. You can pinpoint a dead cylinder by pulling a plug wire off at a time and seeing if the idle quality changes. However, remove wire while engine is off and then start so that you dont get shocked!

lawn mower how to stop carbon build up on spark plug?
D
I clean it and it only lasts 20 mins top
Answer
Carbon usually comes from partially burned or unburned fuel. Meaning your carburetor is running too rich. Does the engine exhaust also look black? That is the sign of rich engine. Blue or white is oil burning. After sitting for the winter, if you are just beginning to use it for the season drain out all the old gas and put in good quality gas like Chevron or Shell and use premium. It may loosen the sticking parts in the carburetor. There are also some fuel conditioning additives that may help the carburetor.
