Sammie

Involves a 3d family. Mother, father and son. They are 3d people..it is a very weird but yet interesting cartoon, kind of like robot chicken. There was one episode where the mother needed some sexual attention, and was using part of a lawn mower as a vibrator and it was damaging her vagina, she kept going to see the doctor but he only got turned on by the fact that she was doing this to herself and gave her pills to make the pain more bearable.

Anyone know how i can attach a couple push mowers together so i can cut the lawn faster?

kevin j

I don't want to spend thousands on a big mower or robot one. How can I attach a couple push mowers together so one is aheat of the other?

Answer
Jean Ann's idea was good, but even if that works (and you'll probably need to also bolt a stabilizing bar of some sort across the front and/or back to keep it from sagging in the middle), you won't be able to turn it properly.

Why not check classified ads, local bulletin boards, or craigslist for an affordable larger mower that you know works and is safe?

My step son is 12 years old. He is an amazing kid and extremely smart, but all he does is play on the computer and watch TV. He just went to mow the lawn, on our zero turn riding lawn mower and he got off before getting the yard done to complain about how tired he and his legs were... What do I do about this??

Answer
You're the parent - restrict how much time he is on the computer/watching TV and send him outside to play. Its summertime!!

What riding lawn mower would you recommend?

I'm looking for a new mower for my family but would also like to use it in my lawn mowing business I plan to start up next summer. I would not want a zero turn. A 48" deck would be best. The main priority is a quality, low maintenance mower that is highly regarded among consumers. Thanks for your input.

Dixie choppers are fast and good for any size lawn. Its zero turn but the only mantinece iv had to do sense the day i bought it 3 years ago was to put air in the tires. They can take a beating

best lawn mower for 2013 image

July 22, 2013.

I have the following Toro lawn mower. The lawn mower engine showed a continuous decline in running time. Five weeks ago, the lawn mower continued to run in perfect order. As time passed by, the engine would not run as long. The engine would run, but die after a certain time. The engine running time continued to decrease as time passed by. Now, the engine will not start.

Toro 6.5 horsepower GTS lawn mower
Toro model number 20017
Toro serial number 240121813

Tecumseh Power Company
engine model number: LV195EA
spec: 362003B
engine family: 4TPXS.1951BC

Round one: We replaced the spark plug and air filter. The engine would run for one or two seconds.

Round two: We removed and cleaned the small metal bowl attached to the carburetor with carburetor cleaner. We removed and cleaned the main jet by using a small wire. We filled the fuel tank with one-week old 87 octane unleaded fuel. The engine would run for one or two seconds.

We drained the fuel tank and filled the tank with fresh 93 octane unleaded fuel. The engine continue to run! Hurray! We pulled the starter cord an hour later and the engine continue to run! Hurray! Two successful tests made me very happy.

When I transported the lawn mower from my friend's home to my home, I pulled the starter cord. The engine failed to start! The engine would not even run for one or two seconds.

I wanted to try starting the engine the next day.

Round three: The next day, I pulled the starter cord and the engine would not start. The engine would not even run for one or two seconds.

We cleaned the fuel tank with carburetor cleaner and the tiny mesh screen that serves as the fuel filter. We rinsed the fuel tank with fresh 93 octane unleaded fuel twice and refilled the tank with fresh 93 octane unleaded fuel.

We applied carburetor cleaner through the fuel line between the fuel tank and carburetor. We applied carburetor cleaner to the float in the small metal bowl. We did not fully disassemble the carburetor.

I pulled the starter cord and the engine would not start. The engine would not even run for one or two seconds.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you again for your help and guidance.

-Mark

Answer
I used to have the same problem. Every other season or so. I would remove the carburetor and spray electrical contact cleaner through all of the ports. The ports are fixed in this machine I believe, and there are no needle valves/adjustment screws. I would also stick a fine copper wire through these ports. It took about an hour start to finish including re-installing the carburetor . Ran like a raped ape after that.

What is the best riding mower?

Adam

My dad and I have been mowing some lawns commercially on the side for the past 7 or 8 years. I have one job that is about 6" to 8" tall when we mow it and it is not like city grass, it's like grass that grows in the country. It is about 5 or 6 acres of that with little trees that try to grow in the grass. That yard takes about 5 or 6 hours of mowing each time. The rest of my yards are in town and a lot smaller. For the jobs I have right now I have been using a 2007 Cub Cadet Tractor mower, 24 horsepower, 50" cut that I bought this year and I works we'll but I bought it used and it already has some problems. I recently narrowed down my selection to a mower with 24+ hp and a 42" + cut zero turn mower under $3,500. It has to be durable and be able to do this job and not fall apart. I was looking at the 2013 Hustler Raptor (23 hp Kawasaki engine, 54" cut with a really strong deck and build for $2,899) and a Bad Boy MZ Magnum (27 hp Briggs and Stratton motor and a 54" deck built also really strong for $3,499) I would much rather have more hp but I heard someone say that the Kawasaki motor runs so much better, but is it as powerful as the 27 hp Briggs and Stratton motor? Any suggestions on other ztr mowers and and answer to this question of which one would be better for my job(s) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Answer
That cub is a hard mower to beat. I think I would look and see how much to repair it first.

What is the problem with my John Deere lawn tractor?

JoAnn S

My riding tractor (Sabre 46") is over 10 years old. The past few weeks I've been having problems with it starting. I have replaced the battery, oil filter and the oil has been changed and there is fresh gas in the mower.

When I turn the key, it just clicks but sometimes after turning the key a few times, it will start.

Would this problem be cause from a bad starter, damaged wiring or the safety unit that is located under the seat?

Answer
It sounds that you have a faulty starter relay. Either test it or have it tested.

Best Riding mover for steep slops?
I bought a brand new riding mover.
Ariens 22 hp, 46 inch. 2013 model
Mowed ones.
Feels like not enough power. Afraid that it will overturn, feels not secure.
Belt kept sleeping off. And then ripped off. 1 flat tire.
Blades are banded already. I got 2 acres, unable to finish half.

Is it normal to happens to a 2 days brand new mover?
Or is it mean that this mover not for my land?

But what should I get? Walk behind, well my knee can not take it no more.
Any tips?

Thank you !

Answer
For mild slopes (< 15°) any mower should be able to go any direction over it without peril or special skills. If a patch of grass is steeper than that and you feel the mower is unstable, try shifting your weight uphill by leaning, re-positioning a leg, or standing.

For the steepest lawns (> 30°) the only solution is to mow directly uphill or downhill over it, not across the slope. If there is not enough power to go uphill, or the surface is too slippery, the standard technique is to go uphill on a not-so-steep route and always mow downhill for the steep portions. Maybe that means repetitively traveling over the same route again and again (which decreases efficiency) but that allows the steeps to be nicely manicured.

How can i save money to go to spain?

So in march 2013 i would really like to visit some of my friends in spain! i live in Virginia and plane tickets are around 780-815$ How can I save up money in 7 months to go? i'm 15 dso it's hard to find a job where the minimum work age is 16

Answer
You will have to postpone the Spain trip until 2014. By then you are old enough to get a part time job when you turn 16 and can save up the money.

At 15 you can take a first aid course and then offer to babysit for friends and neighbors. Other than that there is recycling aluminum cans, doing chores for neighbors and family and the old lemonade stand and the lawn mower.

I do a lot of lawn mowing on a riding lawn mower, and would really like to be able to listen to music while mowing. What are some good inexpensive ($50 or less) over ear headphones that would block out the sound from the mower so that I don't have to crank up the volume too loud?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
You need a closed-back design like the Sennheiser HD205...around £35 in UK. $45 in USA
http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/product/sennheiser-hd205-closed-back-headphone-professional-headphones/81532201.html . . .
The HD200 series headphones are of good quality apart from the cheapest 201 which isn't a great success by Sennheiser standards, and includes models like the 215 and 218 used in many professional studios..
215 on here 7 lines down and I now have some 570s....whooopeeeeeee!
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091020042309AAXRaHT . . . . .
There are also the 300, 400 etc series headphones with the some of the 600 series phones costing over $300, and the extra special limited edition electrostatic headphone and matching amplifier individually hand built and matched to be perfect partners ...as near as possible with current technology.
....the Sennhieser Orpheus at $20 000+ new....if you can find some.
http://www.avland.co.uk/sennheiser/orpheus/ . . . . . .
Only 300 were made making the resale price very high. This one, with two headphones, went for more than $26 000 second-hand.
http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/135580.aspx . . . . .
It's only rival for sound quality is the Stax Omega 11 for the price of a couple of decent ride-on lawnmowers but the Sennheiser HD800 comes close enough to the Stax for a third of the price.
http://www.elusivedisc.com/prodinfo.asp?number=STXSRS007 . . . . .
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD800-Over-Ear-Circum-Aural-Headphone/dp/B001OTZ8DA . . . .

My favourite ( back to affordable kit) is the HD570 Symphony headphones but they are now discontinued and hard to find ( took me months to track some down) , and I also use the HD 580 and HD595 for serious listening, and the HD500 as everyday big phones, which all completely cover the ears and keep external noise at bay reasonably well, and the smaller HD25 for traveling....the same model as was used on all Concorde flights...which are also good at suppressing external noise but don't cover the ears completely like the 205 and the others mentioned.
http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/home_en.nsf/root/professional_headphones-headsets_headphones_502188 . . . . .
You can also get noise canceling headphones but those that work well tend to be very expensive.
Ordinary terms (high street terms) expensive that is, not ultra-crazy expensive like the Orpheus.
http://www.sennheiserusa.com/home
Have fun.

I need a good pair of headphones to wear while mowing the lawn.?

Bryan B

I am looking for something to deaden the roar of the lawn mower but I don't want to have to turn them up to mind blowing volume. Does anyone know if active noise cancelling headphones will do this? Any suggestions (active NC or sound isolating) will be appreciated.

Answer
Noise cancelling earphones work extremely well if you buy the right kind. They tend to run pretty expensive but I tell you right now it is definitely worth it if you have the money. Go to Radio Shack some day and bring a player with you with your regular earphones... ask them to let you try one of their decent sets of noise cancelling and just see the differents. It's something. I'm always yelling at people 'cause I can't hear my own voice. Haha.

Any suggestions for a lawn mower(s) for 3-4 acres to mow?

My husband and I are looking into buying a lawn mower/tractor to mow about 3 - 4 acres. We are thinking about either a JD 2210 or JD 4115. Does anyone have a suggestion of any others, especially of lesser cost, but the same quality for the amount of mowing to be done? Also, suggestions on which size of deck and the amount of time it would take to mow this amount would be great. We have a Torro with a 54" deck now, but we are sharing it with my father-in-law and it is becoming a hassle to take back and worth every week or so. Plus, we have to get the bushhog to use too. We use the Torro for yard (about 1.5 acres) and the bushhog for the other acres. That's why we need one that would be great to do it all! ~thanks

Answer
I'd Look at exmark or grasshopper's..., any 42 inch with a hydro riding mower will do 1.5 acres easy though... I'd also think about simplicity/snapper mowers as well. Simplicity owns snapper.

Why would my Lawn Tractor Backfire and shut down when Blades are engaged.?

Mike

Lawn tractor runs good until the blades are engaged. then the engine backfires and eventually shuts down and cant be restarted until it sets for a few hours. Mowers runs fine for approx 20 min till this starts to take affect.

Answer
I would say you probably have a bearing that is going bad on one of the spindles of the blades. There is a spindle for each blade that has a bearing inside. When one or more of the bearings starts to fail it makes it hard for the engine to turn that spindle - usually the belt will start slipping on this spindle and you will see some smoke or a squealing sound.
The other thing to check is the build up of dead grass under the mower deck. This can cause the blades to slow down or even stop one or more of the blades. I pull our riding mower (craftsman 54" deck) up on a set of sloping car ramps. This gives me room to reach under the deck with a putty knife and scraper to clean out this dead dried grass. Believe me, it accumulates pretty quickly. I clean this out each time I mow our 4 acres.
Check these 2 items first.

How best to approach a hill with a gas lawn mower?

best lawn mower for steep hills on Hydrostatic Remote Control Lawn Mowers For Steep Hills
best lawn mower for steep hills image

tigrillen

Part of a lawn I have to mow is on a hill, more precisely a fairly steep short berm. I notice that my gas lawn mower (toro brand, 4 stroke engine) has problems with it and tends to eventually stall and definitely burns more oil. Changing the landscaping to not-lawn is not an option. I am wondering if there are differences if I approach the hill sideways or better from top or bottom? Sorry if that is a stupid question but I am pretty clueless about gas engines in general.

Answer
Hi, tigrillen. Not a stupid question at all. Two things, one being the mower.

Some old Toros actually had an oil pump in the engine, while their standard mowers these days do not. On a steep slope, the new ones may have some oiling issues as a result. I used to keep an older Lawn Boy with a two-stroke running just for this issue. Lacking that option, you might even consider using a line trimmer to keep things neat, rather than a mower (gets pretty good with practice).

Second thing is that approach with a mower. If the slope is steep enough to potentially roll the mower when trying to go across the slope ("traversing"), have to just go up and down. Then the issue is not slipping when coming down and getting your foot under the mower deck. (A relative is missing a couple of toes from doing that.) Don't mow damp turf (i.e., avoid a lawn "water slide"), wear good shoes, and stay a little off to one side. And keep kids and pets well away while doing this.

What is the best mower to use on a very steep slope in my yard?

lawn mower

I am in the market for a new lawn mower. I want to buy one that can handle a hill that is 145 feet wide and goes up 20 feet over a 40 foot span...it's very steep. Is there a self-propelled mower that I could buy that can handle this job, or should I give in and hire a lawn service?

Answer
Get a Honda self-propelled walk behind mower. A 4 cycle lawnmower is better for steep hills, been doing this for 25 years. Anything else is big or too expensive, like a riding mower 54inch cut, you can't roll it. When using a riding mower, ride up and down the hill diagonally each way and everytime for the best and safest cuts.

Rev. Dr. G

I am a retired college teaching professor, who has taken over raking leaves. Now want to go to cutting grass on lawn. The lawn is straight and small in front. In the back there really is not much grass. The lawn is more the crabgrass type. Even with the greatest of efforts, it will not get that "golf green" lawn look.

I am not interested in a riding lawn mower. Have talked to a couple of people. It looks like a push lawn mower with a bag is the way for me to go. Someone mentioned having one in which you do not have adjust the wheels.

Am concerned about what would be best to buy, where. Safety is also a major concern on how to adjust the blades, and any other matters should know about.

Tired of walking and thought practical exercise would be good. The mower would pay for itself soon.

Any suggestions about operating and buying a motorized push lawn mower would be greatly appreciated.

Because it needs mowing everyday at 250 mm (3/16) you will need a greens mower with a heavy steel drum roller and grass catcher. It's a very expensive mower. Start calling golf courses to see if any have used ones for sale. Also call John Deere and Toro for refurbished lease greens mowers.

How do I get my lawn greener?

Katie

I inherited a home from a relative who passed earlier this year. The lawn has always been green but its steadily getting more and more brown this summer. I water nearly every night and keep it mowed regularly. Am I not watering enough? Do I need a fertilizer? Please help! I have a black thumb and this could only happen to me!!

Answer
First, let me say that I am a HUGE Jerry Baker fan..from WAY BACK in the "olden days". My favorite book of his is one I got in 1988 called "The Impatient Gardener", and he recommends some things that some people think are not "good for the environment", but if you look at the natural chemistry of things, there's really nothing that will hurt it! And when you take into consideration that what he suggests generally is very inexpensive and gets GREAT results, who can argue with that?!?

Start with easy--and maybe obvious--things first. Do you know what type of grass this is? If it's Bermuda and wasn't kept watered through the winter, you may be in trouble. However, if it's St. Augustine, it may just be choking itself out. (St. Augustine is used a lot in the south because it can withstand the heat and drought, and it can go dormant for a LONG time!) Ask some of the neighbors if the know what kind of grass it is. If they don't know, you may have to go to a nursery to find out. If you're watering every night, it may be getting too much water!! Water it "deep" about every 3-4 days at the most. If you set out some tuna cans (the shallow ones) and water until they're full, you will be giving your lawn enough water, and the water will soak into the soil deeper and encourage deep root growth.

Until you find out for certain what type of grass it is, there are some things that you can do to help the lawn--or at least it won't hurt it any. If the lawn has been mowed in a manner that "thatched" the grass (chopped it up really fine so it goes to the soil to decompose and "self fertilize") you may have too much thatch and that could be "choking" the lawn. There are "dethatching" hand rakes or blades you can get for your lawn mower that will help pull up all the thatch. If you don't want to go to that expense--and don't mind some manual labor--you can use a regular rake and get quite a bit of it up. When you do, DON'T throw it away!! Start a compost pile with it, and any other grass clippings, leaves, other plant matter, and even "kitchen waste" such as vegetable peels. (If you want, we can get more into composting later. I'm a huge fan of composting!)

Another thing that may be happening is that the soil is compacted and water is having a problem getting through the surface of the soil down to the roots. There are aerators you can rent or buy (it's a big roller with spikes that you put some water into to weigh it down, and the spikes poke holes in the ground) OR if you have some golf shoes, you can use those and just walk all over the lawn to poke holes in them. You could also do what I've done on several lawns--get a pitch fork (probably around $20) and casually walk around the yard dropping it into the soil. You don't have to go very deep, just enough to break up the surface. I did one backyard over the course of 3-5 days while my toddlers were playing in the yard. I just made sure they weren't anywhere near the pitchfork when I was poking holes! LOL Remember, you don't have to dig up the yard, just get some holes into the soil.

Another thing that will help with water penetration into the soil (and this is going to sound really strange) is to "wash" the grass! Invest in a hose-end sprayer (about $10-15, and one of the most useful garden tools you'll ever get) put some cheap, cheap, cheap dish washing soap (liquid) in it and attach it to your garden hose, then spray the whole lawn. Plants "breathe" (aspirate) through their leaves, and a blade of grass is that plants "leaf"! Between natural dirt and pollen, as well as human created air pollution that falls onto the grass, it may not be able to breathe!! Besides washing the dirt off the blades of grass, the dish soap also helps the water to soak into the soil more efficiently.

Those are basic things you can do to get started. If you have a used book store, see if you can get a copy of "The Impatient Gardener" by Jerry Baker. I did what he suggested without questioning it or thinking about it--and some of my friends and family members laughed at me...AT FIRST!! But once they saw the results I got, they all wanted to know what I was doing because the results are FABULOUS!!

Good luck!!

Best cordless electric lawn mower under 250?

What is the best cordless electric lawn mower for under 250? We have a little less then a quarter of an acre .21. So I am looking for an electric mower that is cordless which will allow me to mow the entire yard before charging again.

I only have 250 to spend and I really was looking for something with little to no maintenance. I do not mind gas but I am trying to save money where I can. I also feel if I had to use a cord that somehow I would mow over it. Any suggestions???

Answer
Well the Greenworks electric lawn mower is not cordless but it is lightweight and quite a bit less than $250. I like the way it handles and have even recommended it on a garden site I run. Check it out and see if this is something that would work for you.

Ben

So i am trying to build a go cart but am not sure what to use for the engine. i have a lawn mower and a chain saw, and i might have some other machinery that have engines. any ideas? i have maybe 200 bucks to throw around for this project
ps. i dont know much about engines and all

Answer
First things first. You cannot use a vertical drive shaft engine in a horizontal application unless you use a transmission. In your case, that would kill the budget. Basically, the lawn mower engine is out of the question.
Next, the chain saw engine will not have enough power to push a go kart. It would suffice on a scooter, however.
Here is what you will need to round up to make this work.
1) Find an old tiller with a fairly good size, horizontal shaft engine. Most of them come with this already so it wont be too hard. Five horsepower will be plenty to get you going.
2) Buy a clutch, sprocket and chain for your drive assembly. The clutch mounts to the engine drive shaft and works off of centripetal force. The sprocket mounts to one of your rear tires and the chain connects the clutch and sprocket together.
You now have the possibility of a running go kart for less than two hundred.

Does a typical push lawn mower have a vertical or horizontal crankshaft? Could it be used on a go-cart?

Questioner

Also, if you know, how fast would a 5HP lawn mower engine move a go-cart?
I realize now that it has a vertical crankshaft. Would a snowblower engine 5-6 HP work better? If it does, why does the engine move the snowblower wheels very slow?....Would i also move the axel that slow?

Answer
If it is a typical law mower it has a vertical shaft and would be too much trouble to rig as a go cart motor, but it can be done. Just a lot of work to do it. Typical 5 hp brigs can run as much as 50mph or more, but it won't last long turning those rpm's. You would be better off just buying a Rupp engine with about 8 to 10 hp. Lot better engine than a briggs for a go cart.

I need a lawn mower with a horizontal shaft. I know most lawn mowers are vertical but I also know there is horizontal ones. So can anyone tell me the ways I can tell if it's horizontal or vertical(physical differences) thanks.

Answer
horizontal mowers usuall have gears or a chain driving a REEL. at the front of the mower..& a lot of self driven mowers are horizontal shaft...

Answer
You can't, and don't really want to. There are NO parts you will use enough of to justify bulk purchases. Even the pros buy most parts retail.
