Has anyone seen the horror film "Sinister" yet? If so what did you think?

best lawn mower to buy 2012 on Tips to buy a Perfect Lawn Mower
best lawn mower to buy 2012 image

Illuminati

I recently saw the 2012 release, "Sinister." Let me tell you what: this movie is scary as f^&*ing hell! The star is Ethan Hawke, who is now one of my most favorite actors. Scott Derrickson directed the film (he helped write the Exorcism of Emily Rose, which is another awesome movie).

I watched this movie late at night, starting it at probably 3 in the morning. What better time to watch a horror film that is scary as hell, while being all alone? I've seen many a horror flick, thousands in fact, and consider myself a horror movie connoisseur, but Sinister made me jump a few times.

What really makes the hair on the back of your neck, hand and arms (well my neck isn't hairy) stand up, was the old film reels that show murders of entire families. Each reel is named something crafty like "Pool Party '86," "Sleepy Time '88," etc. Not to mention the twisted methods in which the families were brutally massacred: one incident included the family being buried up to their neck in the back yard, and the killer taking a push lawn mower, and, well, use your imagination.

You get the creeps when the lead character Ellison Oswalt (Ethan) finds images of the killer hidden in the films. Yet you only see a reflection of the killer's face in the water, or mirror for 1 second.

The film is next to perfection in it's genre. It's a mixture of a mystery, suspense, horror, and, believe it or not, a "snuff" film, all in one.

9 out of 10 Stars.

Anyone else seen it? What did you think?

Answer
6/10. An okay and slightly overrated movie with its own strong points. Definitely not the scariest movie in recent years like what people seem to keep saying though.

Ethan Hawke gave a wonderful performance as usual. Romantic flicks, drama films, horror movies â is there anything this guy cannot do? His acting was the filmâs biggest strength, in my opinion. He conveyed fear so effectively and I love the portrayal of his growing obsession with the strange disappearances and happenings.

I like how the tapes were creatively named⦠so punny. The twist about moving house was my favourite one, though the rest werenât that impressive or convincing. This was especially more so since hardly any explanation was offered about the plot. They tried, but so many âbut why?sâ remain. Maybe I just didnât really buy the whole demonic boogieman thing. So does it possess the children or what?

There was a lack of character development as well and I almost wondered if the movie and parents forgot that they had two children, not one. Why was the son experiencing night terrors and behaving strangely when all along it was the daughter who the Bughuul wanted? And I donât know what everyone else except for Ethan Hawkeâs character is doing.

The buildup of fear and tension was pretty effective despite being mostly cheap scares. You know, the usual appear-in-the-dark-from-behind etc etc. However, there is just something about Ethan Hawke in an empty room with nothing but his screen and a box of tapes. I get nervous everytime he is creeping or out of the attic.

And you think he's on our side?

Barry Obama enacts a drilling moratorium (only two permits in the last year); Obamaâs 2012 budget that, for example, cuts tax incentives for energy exploration; and anti-drilling regulatory policies. Sarah Palin discusses in some detail an area north of the Arctic Circle where the U.S. Geological Survey tells us there are some 90 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil and 1,670 trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable natural gas, âone-third of which is in Alaskan territory.â

Judging by his actions, his rhetoric, his Third-World, anti-imperialist, Frantz-Fanon-imbued vision of Diminished America, my hunch is no. To this presidentâs way of thinking, high gas prices are a solution, not a problem. Cheap energy is the launch pad of a soaring economy, one beyond government (his) control. And this president wants control: over what we eat (less), drive (smaller) and live (lower thermostats). As Palin reminds us, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu actually pines for gasoline prices as high as Europeâs ($9-plus) as a tool of social regimentation âto coax consumers into buying more-efficient cars,â as the Wall Street Journal reported, âand living in neighborhoods closer to work.â Chu told the paper, âSomehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.â Oh, and by the way: Not one senator whose salary we pay bothered to query Chu during his confirmation hearing about how regular Americans with hour-long commutes (as opposed to Berkeley professors like Chu) would fare in this social-engineering scheme.

How would you like to pay $50 to fill up your lawn mower or $1000 to fill up a 22 foot boat?

This man makes no sense whatsoever.

How much should I ask for mowing lawns?

best lawn mower under $500 image

poka5940

OK, so I have an undisclosed job at a local business. I've had it for several days, and I hate it.

Everyone swears. Period. Like, the F bomb is dropped on average 500 times total. I am not even kidding, it is every other word that I hear, and it is seeping into my own life. It's caused me to become more lax with swearing, and I generally have a bad attitude more. There's also sexual harassment against young females, and berating from the managers. This has all negatively impacted my spiritual growth, mental growth, and general self confidence (I suffer with major depression and Asperger's, so any insult is taken seriously, even if it was supposedly not meant).

I mowed lawns before I got this job, but I only did a few. Upon reflection, I realize that I liked doing that, and it pays REALLY WELL compared to my current job if you look at hourly work.

My question is, what should I charge? I mow lawns, edge them, and blow off the clippings from their driveway and sidewalk (many communities actually require this). I also would be willing to spread ant poison, put new mulch on flowerbeds, and learn to effectively kill weeds.

I don't believe in charging by the hour, because it can frighten the customer. They may become worried that I am a slacker and will bump up the cost. So before I was charging about $35 for mowing lawns as well as edging and cleaning up. I would like to amp this up a little bit, and care for lawns instead of my current job. What would a good flat rate be for all of these items individually?

Answer
The guy who does the next door neighbor's charges $25. This city's population is around 450,000 and the market has a ton of competition. So you gotta ask around and know what the market will tolerate.
This guy tows a little trailer that carries his riding mower. Mows the front and back yard (in this case about 5000 sq ft). He trims around and edges the sidewalk and blows the sidewalk clean.

He doesn't bag the clippings but blows them and all the weed seeds onto my lawn -- then comes to my door asking if I want to pay him to spray for the weed problem in my yard. *facepalm*

That's really sucky about your crummy job. You could complain about the harassment, but sometimes the law is slow and goes nowhere anyway. Makes you wonder why the laws are on the books if they won't be enforced except under the most extreme conditions.

I say go for it, mow in the summer, shovel snow in the winter.

What is a good starter mower for a small lawn buisness?

I am starting a local lawn mowing business 20-30 yards and am wondering what kind/type of mower will i need to get. I am 16 and am looking to by a truck too. For the lawn mower price range up to $1200. For the truck up to $8000. Also if i were to charge per sq. ft. what is a good unit price?

Answer
If you are planning on starting a lawn business, I assume you plan on making this a long term venture? If this is so, purchasing "cheap" equipment is a No No! If your gonna commit time and effort into doing a good job for your clients, you need to have at least a mid-priced, commercial grade mower, one that will last more than the 2 months you will get by purchasing a cheaper one. 20 - 30 yards a week is alot of wear and tear on the engine, power drive, cables, and pull string as well as the blade shaft. One week of this wear and tear mowing is as much as the normal homeowner would put on a mower in a "years" time. To keep from having to fix this cheaper mower when it breaks down you need a good one. If the mower isn't cutting, you aren't making any money, and not to mention having to deal with a few irate clients complaining that their lawns are looking scraggly and unmowed because you couldn't mow it that week. You need to at least spend $375.00 - $500.00 smackers on a semi-commercial mower. There are many brands that carry heavier built mowers and these include, Honda, Toro, and Snapper. These 3 are my only choices. Check out each brand and make sure you get one with at least 3.5 horsepower with 4.0 - 5.0 being even better yet. Make sure that you get one with a "rear" wheel power drive. The front wheel drives really suck and are hard to keep straight when putting "stripes" and "designs" on the turf. Mowing the tree wells (circle around base of trees) is more difficult as well. Always bag the clippings when mowing. The customer is paying for a clean, manicured yard and that is just what you should provide. Get a quality lawn edger as well. A sharp edge on the walkways and driveway gives that added clean cut appearance after you have left the property. And make sure to blow or sweep off the concrete walks, driveway, and patios of the spent clippings that have been thrown out from under the deck before leaving (this needs to be done lastly). And when you get the mower be sure that it is a 4 cycle engine (straight gas, no mix) it makes for faster and easier work not having to mix oil and gas all the time. Hope this has been helpful and good luck on your new venture. You will get a great sense of accomplishment from this type of work, not to mention a whole bunch of knowledge about turf, trees & shrubs, diseases, and insects. The best part is the $money$ that can be made if you get good at it...

...Added Info: You don't want to charge by the sq.ft. for your services. It's better to charge by each individual property. Naturally, the bigger the square footage of turf, the more you will charge (time is money). The local economy and the type of neighborhoods you will be working in will have alot to do with your price range. Naturally, higher class homes will bring in more cashflow. A standard price would be $100.00 a month for edging, mowing, and blowing off of the property. Tell the customer that you will spend 1 hr a week doing the work, 4 times a month, which comes out to to 4 hrs total work time. Which means that you are working at a $25.00 an hour rate, which is pretty good money for a 16 yr old. This of course, is for an average size yard with around 2,000 sq. ft. of turf. If its less or more you can adjust the price accordingly (up or down).

Want to buy lawn mower for basic yard, advice on what kind appreciated?

best lawn mower mulcher on If you look closely you will see that the blade might look a little ...
best lawn mower mulcher image

Rev. Dr. G

Have time on my hands, and see no reason to pay the overly high price people charge for yard work.

I have a straight lawn, no golf green type look, main grasss in front and only a little in the back. Don't want expense of riding lawn mower. Want to get one easy to work. For some strange reason when young my father did not want my brother and I to mow the yard, he didn't either?????????????????

So am starting from scratch, but this is not rocket science. A friend warned me about not getting one that you have change each wheel for lever. Basics on buying and doing appreciated, such as dumping grass, maintaining, basically what need to do.

In addition, where to buy and about how much to pay is also a question.

Any thoughts much appreicated.

Answer
Go to Sears. The people that work there are very helpful and can tell you what type of mower you should get according to how big of a yard you have and if you just want a mower or a mulcher/mower combo.

What exactly is a mulcher and the difference between a side discharge?

Hoaduy

I am getting ready and started to mow the lawn. And I got a new lawn mower. According to the manual, it says "Your lawn mower was shipped ready to be used as a mulcher." But it also says I can convert it to a side discharge or a rear bagging (which I don't want). Is it the "mulcher" or "side discharge" for grass to be clipped and unnoticed on the lawn?

Answer
The mulcher works when the side and back vents are closed, by swirling the grass clippings around the blades and basically chopping the grass into tiny bits. The side discharge will blow the clippings out the side, no mulching. What we aren't told is this: only use the mulcher on shorter grass, because it just doesn't work well with tall grass. I basically quit using the mulcher feature and now bag the cuttings. My lawn looks so much better, too. Go figure.

how will 2013 camaro zl1 work with bad gas (87 octane)?

manaf

we only have 87 octane where i live and im thinking about buying a 2013 camaro zl1
dont tell me its a bad idea i'm doin it anyway so the question is
will the knock sensors make it adjust to this level (even though it will lose some performance) and if not what are my options here to make it run smoothly .
thank you :)

Answer
Unfortunately, regular fuel in the good old USA now contains up to 15% ethanol. The asker must live in the corn belt to be stuck with nothing but regular. (IA, NE, KS)

The facts are that there is no such thing as leaded fuel anymore. It is illegal for suppliers to sell leaded fuels. You should be able to get premium that has NO ethanol in it. You can also purchase octane boosters.

The biggest problem with ethanol is that when it sits for a few years in a carburetor, it causes corrosion. Gone are the days when grandpas tractor could be left sitting in the barn for 20 years and started back up without a problem. Haven't you noticed that when fuel for your lawn mower sits over the winter in your gas can that it smells funky? That's because of the ethanol in it.

To answer your question, yes, the spark will be retarded to make up for the lowered octane fuel. It will not damage your engine. If your car has to sit for over a month, get something like Stabil. I helps keep the gas fresh. It works. I use it in my lawn mowers and boats. They all start up just fine in the spring.

What/How/When should I fertilize my lawn?

top lawn mower brands on best choice in zero turn mowers at IMshopping
top lawn mower brands image

Goose

This is a question for all the people that have beautiful lawns. I live in Michigan (Detroit) area and I was wondering when I should first fertilize my lawn and then how many times after that and which months? Also, which brand fertilizer should I use?

Answer
The paradox is that fertilizing and constant watering makes your lawn weak. A weak lawn is prone to weeds which means you put down more chemicals etc. etc. forever and ever. Here's the thing a lawn needs a good root system. To develop a good root system it needs to look for food. By looking for food the roots get stronger. Okay think about it, if you had to look for your food before you ate it, wouldn't you be in better shape than sitting in your Barcolounger sucking down pizza and beer. Same with the lawn, if you spoil it, not good. Also to keep weeds down mow as high as you mower lets you, the weed seeds will be shaded off in the taller grass and not sprout. As to lime, once a year send some soil samples to your agricultural extension service and they will send you a free report on what the soil needs as to fertilizer and lime. In the summer when it is not raining do not cut the lawn, it will stay green if you leave it high. If the top turns brown no problem cause you will have strong roots. I fertilize once every 4 years or so, last year I only had to cut the grass 5 times. I love it. And it is green.

How to remove a flywheel for a pushmower and get to the "key" and replace?

mr.emoeats

If someone could give me step by step instructions on how to remove a pushmower flywheel and get to the "key", please let me know and i can give the brand and specs on the mower if it would help.

thnx
Gage

Answer
Read all the way through. might save you some time.

assuming it's a briggs and straton motor.
1.you empty the gas from the mower
2. Remove the gas tank
3. remove the Pull start housing usually about 8 bolts
4. remove the Magnetic housing from around the fly wheel
5. remove the Flywheel nut from on top the fly wheel
6. Use a gear puller, one used for cars. Usually the Harmonic balance puller works best
7. use a little hammer and a flat head screw driver and tap out the old Key
8. replace with New Key
9. put the fly wheel back in, Noting the grove on the inside must line up with the Key way to go back in properly
10. Put the fly wheel nut back on. tight.
11. replace the Magnetics and adjust. A match book cover is almost the perfect distance. Place one between the magnetics and the fly week. adjust the magnets so that the match book cover can be pulled out but not flopping about. good snug fit. tighten it all up.
12. Put the Pull start housing back on
13. Carb and gas tank
Put some gas in it and PULL..
Oh yeah.. most likely. your Key on the flywheel is not your problem. Might want to take off the blade on the Lawn mower and use that gear puller to pull that blade rest off. there is a Key there too. That key is the most likely to sheer because of hitting a stump or rock or something hard. It will also throw off the balance of a mower and stop it from running smoothly.

Can any one help me with my lawn mower problems?

subnavyman

My lawn mower will not start. If I prime it, it will run for about 3 seconds and die. If I do not prime it it will not run at all.

Answer
Could be many things. The easiest: Check the gas tank and make sure there is clean fuel in it. Check the spark plug, make sure it is clean, dry and connected. Then, check the air filter if it is clogged at all, it will cause these symptoms. Then, remove the carberator and clean it with carb cleaner. I've rarely seen any problems go beyond these unless you absolutely abuse your lawn mower. Total cost for doing all this around $7.00.

best way to sharpen lawn mower blades?

rick

I have a riding lawn mower with three blades. What is the best way to re-sharpen them.

Answer
You'll need to remove them first.

Once you have them off, you can either use a bench grinder or a file.

The bench grinder removes a lot of bad nicks and rough cutting edge very quickly, but be aware that it also heats up the metal and can ruin the temper.

A bluntish edge is better than a knife edge. The knife edge will cut VERY keenly at first but will dull quickly. A less-acute edge will cut well while lasting longer.

If you don't have a bench grinder or cannot afford one, you can get a good edge with a file and some time. I've done it before and while it can get tiresome, it needn't be tiring. It'll take a while but you'll have much better control over the edge than with a grinder, and there is NO chance of overheating the metal with a file.

I never worried too hard about the balance of my blades. Generally the blades experienced approximately the same amount of wear and needed approximately the same amount of sharpening. It's very nice to have a finely balanced blade but really it isn't crucial.

Good luck with it.

Find a lawn mower race event, and start hanging out in the pits. Talk to the racers. Most racers are happy to talk about their machines, and most will give you tips on what to do (and what not to do!). They can also point you to resources, such as engine and chassis shops, parts houses, websites, etc.

How to turn a regular riding lawn mower to a racing lawn mower?

In 2006 I bought a used Yard Machine made by MTD from Walmart for $200. I am wondering if I can turn it into a racing lawn mower.

Answer
Heck yes you can. Just modify the motor. You can get information online just google or search "lawn mower racing". And you will get a ton of info. You also need to get special racing tires and wheels put on it and I think they remove the cutting deck and possible trim it down to make it lighter. Like fiberglass hood deck and body instead of metal. Really wouldn't be that much to do and I've watched it on TV and it looks like a ton of fun!!!!!!!! Do it Man!!!!!!!!! best lawn mower for 4 acres image

My husband and I are looking into buying a lawn mower/tractor to mow about 3 - 4 acres. We are thinking about either a JD 2210 or JD 4115. Does anyone have a suggestion of any others, especially of lesser cost, but the same quality for the amount of mowing to be done? Also, suggestions on which size of deck and the amount of time it would take to mow this amount would be great. We have a Torro with a 54" deck now, but we are sharing it with my father-in-law and it is becoming a hassle to take back and worth every week or so. Plus, we have to get the bushhog to use too. We use the Torro for yard (about 1.5 acres) and the bushhog for the other acres. That's why we need one that would be great to do it all! ~thanks

Answer
I'd Look at exmark or grasshopper's..., any 42 inch with a hydro riding mower will do 1.5 acres easy though... I'd also think about simplicity/snapper mowers as well. Simplicity owns snapper.

What could cause irrigation breakdown?

Lorraine E

I own a 1/4 acre property with a 6 zone irrigation system installed in 2007. The water bill jumped to over $500 and found that the system was compromised in almost every zone. If no vehicles are on the property other than landscape lawn mowers, what could have caused such a widespread failure?
Property is in GA, pump is part of initial installation 2 yrs ago when house built. Could it have been the mowers? I hate to think it.

Answer
wow, a fairly new system with so many problems...
I'm willing to bet it's either poor installation or breaks from freezing. Being in GA, freezing most likely is ruled out.

Fixing the issues should be relatively inexpensive. Get them done sooner than later to avoid any deeper water bill expenses.

Can you contact the installer? If they are a reputable company, they should help you out!

Good Luck.

How much will it cost to fix my lawn mower?

randomobje

Hi all - I know nothing about lawn mowers or motors in general. Anyways - I just inherited a lawn mower which (I think) was a decent quality mower in its day (early 00's), but has been sitting in a shed with the gas and oil in it for several years. I am guessing that I'm going to have to take it in for repairs to get the motor all cleaned out and de-gunked and working again. Any ideas on how much something like that should cost?

Thanks!

Answer
It's easy enough to drain the gas and oil yourself. Not much to it really. There should be a plug under the deck of the mower for the oil drain. Replace it with fresh. Pull the spark plug out and brush it clean and replace it. May take a few pulls to get the old gas out of the line but if there was nothing wrong with the mower to begin with it should be good to go. Could save you quite a bit of money. If that fails then take it to the shop.

I need to remove some lawn mower oil from the cement floor of a storage unit.

Answer
You can use powder to remove the excess oil. I used sawdust and worked wonders. If you can't get your hands on some, maybe use cat litter dust or something like that. Once you remove the excess oil, use any liquid soap to clean it.

my lawn mower has trouble starting and blows out smoke?

best push lawn mower 2012 on Snow Blowers Reviews | Top 10 Best Snow Blowers Reviews And Consumer ...
best push lawn mower 2012 image

Football I

i have a push mower. the average nothing fancy..
i have had it since maybe april 2011 and its sept. 2012... i dont know much bout lawn mowers just tryna get rid of grass...
since ive started using this year at the begining when i turn it on it blows out lots of smoke but after a minute it is normal...
and also i usualy have troubl starting it cuz the blades at the bottom usually get stuck so before i turn on the mower i usualy have to spin the blades a few times with my hand..
so basicly th proble is smoke at the start and blades dont move properly.. at the start..

plz help thnx allot

Answer
Please don't move the blades with your hand unless the spark plug is disconnected from the magneto wire. If the dead-man's switch has failed (very possible) the mower could start and chop off your hand or fingers very quickly, even with just one compression.

The smoke probably happens because the mower is tilted a certain way while spinning the blades. Oil gets into the combustion chamber and has to be burned off. Try tilting the mower away from the muffler next time (lift up the muffler side) and it will probably smoke less. Mowing on steep hills can also cause this.

As far as the blade, it might've hit a rock and is off-balance. Take off the blade and grind with a dremel until you can balance the blade with one finger at the center (where the bolt goes). Dents in the housing might also need to be hammered out or debris removed from the shaft (nylon ropes, tough weeds, etc.)

Serious question about my son, serious answers only please?

luvmy4boyz

Disclaimer: This might be long, I will try my best to keep it short and sweet.

My youngest son is 9 years old and he has always had anxiety even since he was a toddler. When he was little he was afraid of loud noises (low airplanes, lawn mowers, vacuums, etc...)

I always thought as he got older it would get better but it just seems to get worse. He is terrified of Thunder (which we get a lot of during the summer). Every little thing that happens can set off his anxiety these days for example....last night our smoke detector went off for no reason (prob need battery change) and all night he was scared we were going to have a fire or that there was a fire. No matter what I said he was crying and upset. I finally had to lie and tell him that his brother pushed the button and that was why it went off. Luckiy he fell for that and was okay. Then there was a beetle in the house and we killed it and he started asking tons of questions about beetles and if there will be more and if they are in his room etc...This morning we heard a noise like a bang (prob someone outside throwing something loud into the garbage outside), he wouldn't go down to the playroom because he convinced himself the noise came from there.

He worries constantly about the weather and we have to check weather.com like 6-10 times per day to see if any thunder storms are coming toward us. This past spring he played baseball and some kid on his team told him that the world was going to end in 2012 and ever since he asks me at least two times per day if that is true. No matter what I say it doesn't help.

He recently started taking Concerta because he has attention issues in school and I feel like since he started the medicine, his anxiety has gotten worse, like all his focus has gone to worrying about things. It's great that he is focusing better and even doing his worksheets better but geez. He has an appointment in Aug for a check up to see how the meds are going and I will bring this all up to the doctor who already knows about his general anxiety issues. Has anyone ever dealt with anything like this?

Before the medicine the extent of his anxiety was mostly on thunder storms and asking a lot of questions about things like where we are going, what we will do there etc...and I feel like I could ease it by talking it out with him but lately it's just getting ridiculous.

I know the doctor is going to bring up the idea of anxiety medication because he has in the past but I've always said no. I have heard horror stories about anxiety meds affecting children in a bad way and causing suicidal thoughts. I just don't know what to do anymore.

Oh I forgot to mention...the main thing here too is that my son has a learning disability and he has an IEP at school so he gets a lot of special services. So he has learning issues, attention issues and anxiety. He has no behavioral issues, he is a really good boy and is well behaved, caring a sweetheart. The doctor said it's hard to know what comes first (kind of the chicken and the egg) does his learning issues cause the anxiety and attention or does the attention cause the anxiety and learning issue or does the anxiety cause the learning issues and attention issues? Or is it just a combination of everything that exasperates the others.

Since he has had anxiety from a young age I am starting to wonder if that is the main culprit. *shrug* I am so at a loss and it kills me to see my son be so anxious about everything but I don't know how to help him. Maybe I should get him counseling? I have 3 older boys who are 14, 14, and 12 and are all honor and high honor students and have never had issues like this so I don't know where it comes from.
If it's the concerta should I try a different ADHD medicine or should I just stay away from the meds? Will other meds have the same effect? I am also concerned about his appetite which has been really low since taking the meds.
maybe what he needs is counseling for the anxiety and not attention issue medications?
kroos: I have tried all those things and more to ease his fears it doesn't help. My older boys do not say things to scare him, they would never do that but they do tend to get frustrated with him when he gets scared of things and then he just gets more upset because he knows people are upset with him for how he feels.
Lauralee, I think with my son it's not so much the noise itself that scares him. He's not afraid of vacuums or lawn mowers anymore. Plus it's not just noises, it's anything like they had a flood watch in effect because of all the rain and he was worried about that. I think just need to stop watching the news! LOL

Answer
If you participation on this board is a true representation of who you are then. Go with your gut. Your an awesome mom with excellent judgment. If your leaning towards counseling I think you should go for it. It may just be able to teach him new coping technique's. You never know which ones will be effective but you can't use them unless you know them.

Do you now anything about a lawnboy self propelled lawn mower with electric start. Did someone at the store take the fuse out of the box? Where would it be? Am I just stupid cause I cannot find anything that looks like a fuse?

See if this helps - I just Googled Lawn Boy. The fuse is amber colored plastic. This shows where it goes.

pros and cons of an electric start lawn mower?

antiquegal

need to buy a new lawn mower, thinking of one with an electric start, good idea or not

Answer
It all depends on you. I'll list a few things to help you decide

Cons:
1.) Its another thing that can go wrong.
2.) You need to have an electrical plug near where you store the mower. (At least on the Toro and Lawnboy units)
3.) Risk of the gears involved in the starting going bad.
4.) Over time the battery will fail, and it is expensive to be replaced.

Pros:
1). No string to pull!
2.) There is a recoil start as a back-up.
3.) No throwing out your back to start.
4.) Prime, turn the key and go!

The battery should last for at least 5 years or more. On the Toro and LawnBoy units, you plug it into the wall once a month, overnight. They do not charge themselves.

My personal recommendation would be the Toro 20074 Recycler w/ Personal Pace and Electric start. You can find your nearest Toro dealer by using the dealer locator on http://www.toro.com or they have this unit at Home Depot for $399. It has a 2 year Guaranteed to Start warranty with it.
