Answer
Drain the fuel from the tank and run the engine until it dies. If you can't do that, add a fuel stabilizer, Like Sta-Bil, to the fuel tank and run the engine for a few minutes. Remove the spark plug and pour a tablespoon of oil (any weight will do) into the cylinder and pull the cord a couple of times to distribute the oil, then replace the spark plug. That should do it. I have been doing this with my Honda snow blower for 7 or 8 years and it starts on the first or second pull the following year. BTW, I keep it in a shed, too.

which would be better for a large lawn and hilly terrain

Answer

Please recommend a reasonably priced, but quality lawn mower?

Michael

My dad already has a riding mower and just needs a push lawnmower to clean up around the edges where it's hard to maneveur the riding mower.

Ideally, looking for well designed, well built lawnmower that is reasonably priced (couple hundred dollars?)
I doubt my dad is going to do routine maintenace like oil changes and air filter changes.

So I guess a lawnmower that can take that type of neglect and still continue to work fine might be best.

Answer
Here is something most people dont know. Most stamped steel lawnmowers are built by the Roper corporation (even if they have a fancy name on them). Grass clippings are very acidic and will cause the average steel mower to rust through within 3 to 5 years even if they are kept in the garage. Now the main difference is the engine. These engine manufacturers produce engines to different mowers specifications and can differ greatly even though they look identical on the outside. One Briggs and Stratten is not the same as the next. Honda makes the best mower engine hands down but can be pricey. Briggs and Stratten is second but due to demands from low budget manufacturers they will vary as well. Tecumseh has historically been the bottom of the heap with minimal adjustments and frequent need for service. Go to Home Depot and get the best steel deck mower in your range. Their version of the John Deer is a good buy. Change the oil every forty hours of operation max! Always clean around the dipstick before checking the oil so nothing falls into the motor. Replace the air filter at the beginning of every season and more if your area is exceptionally dusty.Wash the clippings out from under the deck before you put it away. Never put STP or oil additives in the oil, air cooled engines work different than your car (the oil gets hot enough to fry fish) and this stuff kills. Follow the engine manufacturers guidelines and you will be OK no matter what you buy.
I worked for Toro for five years at the distributor level as a warranty mechanic and although I like Toro, I think Snapper makes the best mower on the planet.
Go figure.

What are some of the best reel push mowers available?

Matthew

I have a couple of lawns lined up to cut. I want a push mower for the exercise and the fact that I won't have to pay for gasoline. I've just heard that some of them don't cut very well no matter how much muscle you put into it. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
I'm in the market for one too. We bought one second-hand to check things out and get a real feel for this type of mower. Here's what we learned. Most reel push mowers are good to maintain short grass, which is no good if you want to control weeds. I want my lawn to be 3+ inch high. When the product specs say you'll need to sharpen once a season, it means 2-4 times a season. The blades on our Great States mower were sharpened before our first mow and after mowing three times, the ends of the blades of grass looked riped (and our lawn is small - 1200 sq ft). If you're obsessive about having your lawn cut evenly (like me), you'll get your cardio workout in by mowing your lawn (and it still might not end up even- argh!). My approach to mowing the lawn is I don't mind mowing 3 times a week, if I only have to do it for 10 minutes each time; but the results have to be clean and even.
The main thing to remember is if your lawn is level everywhere (ie no pot-holes anywhere) and free of hidden rocks and twigs, you can consider a manual reel mower. But if it's not, then you'll either have to fix it or restrict yourself to the more expensive manual reel mowers. However, don't confuse price with quality: we thought that a Brill was the top of the line. Not so. First figure out what kind of lawn you have and the kind you'd like to have and maintain, and what you're willing to put up with, then choose the best mower for you.
After some research, I've decided that the Fiskars Momentum is the one for me. Problem is, it's not cheap. Lowes has them at the cheapest price around: $200. Or maybe I'll go for the Scott reel mower for $130. Which boils the question down to: will I be irritated at myself the next four years for saving $70 on the initial price of the mower? How much do I value 4 years of peace of mind, little to no sharpening of the blades and an easier mowing job for an evenly cut lawn? Kind of a biased question, I know.
You might decide to do like we did and check craigslist for a second hand mower to figure out what you like and what your lawn is like to mow. Then, when you're ready to get "the one", go for it and sell old one again on craigslist for a slightly lower price than what you paid for. Turned out to be a pretty cheap "rental" for us.
Here are the sites that are helping me choose:

how can we measure calories in food ? and how to measure burning calories while exercising?

peter12345

Answer
A calorie is a unit of energy. We tend to associate calories with food, but they apply to anything containing energy. For example, a gallon (about 4 liters) of gasoline contains about 31,000,000 calories. You could drive a car 22 miles (35 km) on the calories in 217 Big Macs

If we look at the nutritional label on the back of a packet of maple-and-brown-sugar oatmeal, we find that it has 160 calories. This means that if we were to pour this oatmeal into a dish, set the oatmeal on fire and get it to burn completely, the reaction would produce 160 kilocalories (remember: food calories are kilocalories) -- enough energy to raise the temperature of 160 kilograms of water by 1 degree Celsius. If we look closer at the nutritional label, we see that our oatmeal has 2 grams of fat, 4 grams of protein and 32 grams of carbohydrates, producing a total of 162 calories. Of these 162 calories, 18 come from fat (9 cal x 2 g), 16 come from protein (4 cal x 4 g) and 128 come from carbohydrates (4 cal x 32 g).

Our bodies "burn" the calories in the oatmeal through metabolic processes, by which enzymes break the carbohydrates into glucose and other sugars, the fats into glycerol and fatty acids and the proteins into amino acids . These molecules are then transported through the bloodstream to the cells, where they are either absorbed for immediate use or are sent on to the final stage of metabolism, in which they are reacted with oxygen to release their stored energy

⢠Type of activity. The best exercises for burning fat are those which can be done continuously and involve the most muscle groups (especially the large muscles of the hips and legs). The more muscles used, the more fat you will burn. Exercises which involve movement for brief spurts followed by rest (even through they may be strenuous), use sugar - not fat - as their primary fuel source.
How to Burn Approximately 100 Calories
(Estimated for a 120 to 150-pound healthy person)

Activity Time in Minites

clean/vacuum/mop floor 25-35 min
wash dishes/iron clothes 45-50 min
mow lawn (self-propelled mower) 25-30 min
mow lawn (manual mower) 12-15 min
garden (spade/roto-till) 10-20 min
rake leaves 20-25 min
wash/wax car 20-25 min
wash windows 20-30 min
paint (brush) 35-40 min
shovel snow 10-15 min
blow snow 15-20 min
stack firewood 15-20 min
walk (brisk) 15-25 min
tennis 20-25 min
golf (walk course) 20-25 min
cycle (5.5 mph rate) 20-30 min
cycle (9.4 mph rate) 15-20min
aerobics (medium) 20-30 min

Caution:these guidelines are for healthy individuals. Heart disease patients should confer with their physicians before starting any new exercise regimen.

How good is the Toro E-cycler cordless mower?

Garry_Mitc

I am thinking of getting the Toro cordless mower and worried about how it cuts thick grass. My yard has thick grass and it has a lot of moisture. I am curious how dose this mower do by it being cordless? Also if not this mower how about the Toro gas mowers like the ones with the pace self propelled systems with either electric start or blade brakes? thank you

Answer
If you are looking for a Toro mower, I would go with recommendations by Consumer Reports. They just came out with their latest reviews of the top lawn mowers for this year and several Toro mowers are on the list. But they are all gas-powered. If you have a large yard and thick grass, I'd go with the gas mowers as it's more powerful than electric mowers.

Some of the Toro mowers mentioned are:

Toro Super Recycler Self-Propelled Mower 20092
Toro Super Bagger 20192
Toro Recycler 20333 (this was on last year's list as a "best buy" also)
Toro Recycler 2033

How can you make your own lawn roller/striper for push mower?

baseball5

Has anyone made this before and do you have any ideas or tips? I can only find information on the web for making it for a riding mower. Thanks

Answer
Here's some basic rules to follow when you make one. You want to make one that rolls not one that you drag behind. You'll end up dragging the cut grass. It will need enough weight to bend the grass. It will need to be as wide as your mower's blades. Attach the roller to your mower's arms at the lowest point just above the deck with metal or wood bars, not chains. It could roll into the blades that way when you have to back up. your mower will have to have a bagger or mulching blades with the side covered. Throwing cut grass over the area you just rolled will loose it's look.

3" Schedual 40 PVC pipe filled with concrete with a 1/4" steel screw bar set in the center is a good way. 3" steel pipe thats 1/4" thick is also a good roller.

girl

me and my friend want money! =) but we dont know how to get it?

Answer
Hi girl, well i got some ideas for you to earn money and if your not old e
nough to get a job thats ok as these ideas can be done by most kids.I will put them down below after these few ideas first

You can try dog walking/dog washing/caring for cats/kittens and maybe you can even learn to sew and make the cute clothes for them.Get tuition from parents/grandparents/sewing teacher/or any neighbours who can teach you.Another idea apart from all that are listed below is you can HOUSE SIT, for friend/neighbours if they are going on holiday or away for awhile, you can look after there house or flat while they are away and get some money for it, i use to do this and got good money.

1 Baking food and selling it to friends or neighbours,or the elderly people and you can get tution at community centres,or from parents,or a quick course at college.Make pom poms and learn to sew clothes you can make money buy selling them, get tuition from people who know like grandparents, home economics teacher, etc.
2. Lawnmowing. You can ask the neighbours or anyone in town if they would like you to mow there lawn.If they got a lawnmower you can do it.You can get money and ok job.
3 Gardening( just basic stuff like pulling up weeds and plant seeds, etc its very easy when shown how to do.You can do this for the elderly people they would appreciate it/ but try to find the elderly or older people who are not mobile/have trouble doing this work and then they can give you a paid job.
4 Honey collecting.Ask neighbours or people in the town if they keep bees and collect honey. If you have NO Fears of bees stinging you, you can collect honey from peoples bee farms. You can request the head gear and gloves so you will be ok if careful. But if scared please dont attempt this.
5.Aluminium can collecting, If you collect lots of aluminium cans and crush them and fill them in sacks you can take them to a recycling depot and get money for them, i used to do this a long time ago.If you dont have a recycling depot in your town try to ask for the nearest town that has one,Look then up online. if none then you might have to travel to get to nearest city with parents or if your old enough then you can make your own way to nearest depot.
6. Online games.Give your opinion about playing games online.IGo to google and then find a free to enter website that lets you download games and then you play them, give your opinion of them and get paid.
7.House/Flat cleaning, just very basic cleaning for neighbours , mopping dusting, vacuuming etc, if you think this is too hard work or dont like it etc there are other options.
8.Coach cleaning. Cleaning seats and interior of coaches /buses if you know the local bus/coach depot ask them if they can give you a little paid work to clean them.
9. Online surveys, Some companys pay some money to fill out surveys online. It could be just for anything like giving them your opinions on foods, make up, or any other survey. Its easy to do.PLEASE ONLY CHOOSE FREE TO ENTER SURVEYS AS OTHERS COULD BE SCAMS , JUST TO BE SAFE GO FOR FREE TO ENTER ONLY.
10. Collecting antiques. Ask your parents or neighbours or anyone if they have very old antiques, or old statues, old paintings or anything else they dont want, and once you got some you can take them to the antique shop and sell them.
11.Sell your things to the Second hand stores. If you have anything good you collect and that you can let go of and wish to sell like records, cds, tapes, or anything of value you can get money for them.
12 Garage sale. Similar to number 11, sell your stuff on a table outside your home and get some money. But only the stuff your willing to let go of, must be good quality though and nothing broken etc.
13.Rare Butterfly Collecting . This is an odd job and can be hard to get money with, but you can. all you need to do is buy a net with a long handle attached to it. And go outside and catch butterflys in the net, then put them in a jar with holes in the lid so they can breathe. BUT TO GET MONEY FOR THIS YOU MUST FIND THE RARE TYPES OF BUTTERFLYS AND IF YOU DO CATCH THEM YOU CAN GET VERY BIG MONEY. IF YOU DONT KNOW WHICH BUTTERFLIES ARE THE RARE ONES, GO TO THE LOCAL LIBRARY AND GET A BOOK ON RARE BUTTERFLIES. OR LOOK THEM UP ONLINE.ONCE YOU FIND A RARE BUTTERFLY LOOK UP ONLINE FOR BUYERS OF RARE BUTTERFLIES.
14. Window cleaning. You can clean windows for the old people in your area or the neighbours etc.and make some money.
15. Online Competitions or Online Games . There are many online just type paid competition.
take very good care .Bye from Darren

Is it better to mow your lawn with a mower that has a bag or without?

Kim M

Answer
Do you rake your yard with a regular lawn rake in the spring and fall?
If you do this, by all means, continue to non bag a lawnmower.
I do have to make an exception. You must mow your lawn at a 2 1/2- 3 inch level weekly. Unless you mow your lawn more frequently and at a lower rate, or just do it when I can, use the bag.
A five to seven day period is max for the turf to grow and be trimmed. Set your mower height at near or at maximum to prevent crabgrass and weed germination. The amount of fert should ultimately decide you bagging.
If you fertilize, if you rake in both the early spring and in the fall, do not bag it. If you do not do either bag the stuff. To do both the fert and rake in spring and fall will allow you to topseed and remove thatch. Fert without the rake means you put your money on top of dead grass that will never reach the roots.
Maintain your lawn. A Bagger is a lazy excuse for poor maintenance. In over twenty years I have yet to use either a bag or collection device for my sixty acres of turf. My services and methods are in demand. Cut it, feed it, rake it twice a year.

How to put in a lawn mower bag?

Emmanuel R

I have a bolens side discharge lawn mower, & I'm trying to mow my lawn but I don't know how to get this bag in, it's opening is way smaller then any other bags I have ever had, plus it's a side discharge, if you guys know any videos that would help or know exactly what I'm dealing with please help, thank you.

Answer
Look to the manufacturer for what to do. Do it on-line.
Are you sure it's the right bag and just as important are you sure that mower is made for a bag.
You just cant make a mower into one that holds the grass if it's not already capable of doing that.

Should I replace my lawn mower or get it fixed?

Matteo M

My 7-year-old Toro self-propelled lawn mower's cord is off so the self-propelled part doesn't work, the engine will no longer start (it wasn't fully engaged last time I used it... it was running slow and loud with a lot of smoke and used a lot of gasoline). The last time I got my mower serviced it was over $100. The newer model Toro is $350-$400.

At this point should I just buy a new one with all those problems?

Looking for a lawn mower than you mix oil to gas. Do they still exist?

skip

I have a steep hill where I have to cut the grass. Mixed gas & oil prevents motor to burn. If they still exist what kind or refer to the closest on the market

Answer
If the hill is so steep you can't use a 4 stroke push lawn mower I think you should get a really nice weed wacker. Most people use weed wackers on a hill that is really steep. Makes it safe too. Or just spray it with weed killer like roundup.

lawn mower question please help.?

Tyler W

i need a new riding mower now im going to buy a craftsman should i get a manual or a hydrostatic transmission. my yard has some hills and im a big dude 260 pounds and i also want to tow a yard cart.

Answer
depending on how steep the hills are and what you are going to be hauling in your yard cart, you are going to be better off with a hydrostatic tranny, but you may want to look at a shaft drive mower instead of the belt drive, they do not have a drive belt, so you don't ever have to worry about it stretching and wearing out and then having to replace it. the shaft drive is much stouter as well and will pull whatever you want it to. hope this helps

magneto ignition system is made up of 2 electrical circuits what are they?

thomas w

Answer
magnet and coil
A magneto provides pulses of electrical power to the spark plugs in some petrol-powered internal combustion engines where batteries are not available, most commonly those in 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines used in small motorcycles, lawnmowers and chainsaws, as well as in most small aircraft and some racing automobiles, serving a similar function to the coil-type ignition system found in automobiles. In aircraft, typically each cylinder has two spark plugs, each driven from a separate magneto. This arrangement provides redundancy in the event of a failure of one of the magnetos, and two sparks burn more efficiently than one.

Magnetos combine the functions of a dynamo, contact breaker points and coil into one unit. The engine rotates a coil of wire between the poles of a permanent magnet to provide a basic source of electrical energy (In some variants the permanent magnet is rotated and the coil remains stationary). On each revolution, a cam opens the contact breaker one or more times, interrupting the current, causing the voltage in the secondary winding of the coil to reach a very high value, enough to arc across the electrodes of the spark plug. Because no battery or other source of energy is required, the magneto is a rugged, reliable and self-contained solution to providing ignition of the fuel. In some modern magneto designs, an electronic switch replaces the contact breaker.

Bought Camera From Argos?

Nicole

Lost my camera last week, went to argos today to purchase a new one, got a hitachi brand 12mp set me back £80, basically bought it in store tried to turn it on outside in the foodcourt, battery wasnt charged (so even if i had of asked to see the quality in store this would not of been possible) Went home, charged the battery turned it on, awful quality of photos flash makes them ghost like, and macro setting is awful.. I am comparing this camera to the cheaper 12mp Alba i purchased the previous month which was outstanding but unfortunatly they stopped selling it therefore I had to chose a different model...

So my question to you is the 30 day guarantee does not apply to cameras, but im sure if A. i couldnt test the camera instore and B. the quality was not as described for a camera which apparently was priced at over £200 prior to the sale.. That it should be high quality? and not this pixelated probably 5mp crap that I have recieved..

How should I go about returning this item?
I did put it to the highest setting, due to my photography background I know about settings etc. I did go into argos the very next day and they could see what I meant and happily exchanged my camera to a different model

Answer
Ok if you are going to return it I recommend you do it asap, the 30 day money back guarantee DOES NOT apply to cameras, or any other high-value electrical items. If you look at the receipt it does state this underneath the product description (*Exempt from 30 day money back guarantee) and thus Argos are not obliged to give you a full refund unless the camera is faulty and after being sent for testing and is irreparable.

Additionally, no retailer is allowed to sell an item stating that it is less than the specification given on the ticket/in the catalogue. The Trading Standards act (1970-specifically) denounces this practice as illegal and retailers can be sued or shut down.

If you state that you're unhappy with the quality, Argos are not legally obliged to refund or exchange it for you, however if the camera is clean and (looks) unused, and if it's within a couple of days from the purchase date they may exchange it.
If you state that the camera is faulty, they will send it for repair. There's no way they will refund you without sending it away first.

Argos do not test camera's in-store as they don't have staff trained or the facilities specifically to do so. Also keeping charged batteries in a camera is classed as a biohazard and a fire risk, in the same respect that they do not keep lawnmowers already full of petrol.

There are a couple of points I have that might help you without having to go through the hassle of taking it back to the store.
1) Are you definately sure you've set the DPI/Resolution on the camera to 12mpx? As with most camera's, they're not automatically set to their highest quality settings and it has to be done manually. Check your instruction manual for details on how to do this.
2) If you bought the camera close to the new catalogue launch date, all stores drop the price in order to clear particular lines. If Argos do no longer sell your camera, it's classed as RO stock. Ask at the tills to see if any other store in your local area has one still in stock. You will have to travel to pick it up as Argos do not transfer stock between stores.

Hope this helps.

pregnant people using riding lawn mowers?

warpedhybr

Am healthy and have a healthy pregnancy (thus far). I will be 7 mos. pregnant shortly and yesterday just bought a riding lawn mower which of course ppl. who know me think is nuts. I just went on an international 12 hr. flight w/ 2 kids (ages 3 + 5) and came back last sunday, so I'm thinking riding a lawn mower on a 40,000 sq. foot lot (about 1/2 acre which isn't all covered w/ grass luckily) w/ regular height grass isn't going to be that much of a challenge...

have you rode any lawn equipment/farm equipment while in your last trimester and nothing disastrous happened?

Answer
Go ahead and ride that mower, more than likly the only thing you will feel is a bit of a massage from the vibrations or a slight back ache. Unless you are already dialated or contracting you aren't going to get thrown in labor by a lawn mower. Obviously just don't stick your hands or feet in the blades duh and don't go up hills or do tight turns that might cause the mower to tip.

Can someone suggest a good lawn mower that I can buy at Lowes?

Vishal

I want to buy a self propelled lawn mower preferably gas.
Something that adjusts to my walking pace and has a bag (side or rear) Also can someone explain what the difference a side or rear bag would male.
My lot is a flat lot about 0.3 acres. My budget is around 400-600 dollars

Answer
Troy-Bilt $379.00
7.75 Torque 21" Self-Propelled Gas Mower
Item #: 303531 Model: TB340 XP

This is a very good mower where the self-propelled speed is determined by how fast you walk. Its a commercial mower at a home owner's price.

Rear bag verse side bag: Well first off its hard to find a side bagger these days, they're just not popular and here's why. Rear baggers were designed so that if you have several obstacles in your yard, (trees ETC...) you can maneuver around them from either side without changing directions, the down side is side bags are a little larger (not much). That's about it.

Which is the best lawn mower that will cut the grass and make it mulch?

Miss Shi-S

Answer
We have a Honda self propelled mower that mulches very well. It has a double blade setup, so the grass is actually cut twice as the blade passes through it. Additionally, the mower will bag cut grass.

When mulching grass, the grass can't be too wet or too tall. You also have to be sure that the blades are good and sharp. This makes the cuts finer and the grass looks better if the cuts are clean on the grass blades. If the grass is very tall or wet, bagging is good because the blades can become overwhelmed buy these factors, and then your cutting job looks bad.

It's important to keep the underside of the mower deck cleaned up, too. Build up affects how the blade works and in turn how well your mulching feature works.

Mulching grass is smart. You are returning organic matter to the soil, conserving water and saving landfill space from grass clippings. Further, you're saving yourself work.. bagging grass and then carrying those heavy bags is a pain!

What's the best mower for cutting wet grass?

anise_lein

Yes, yes, I know! The best option of all is to wait until it dries. We can't. We would be waiting nine months. ;) Basically, the rainy season has begun in the Pacific Northwest, and there is no way to count on it stopping for any length of time until next July. It will be raining literally every single day. Given that, has anybody found that some mowers do better than others in wet grass?

Answer
I agree with the reel mowers, which are still quite available, as in this line here:

http://www.mclanemower.com/reelmowers.asp

I use a high-vacume, bagging, rotary (standard) mower with at least 5hp to lift the heavy grass. I like the Honda's and have 9 seasons on the last 2 I purchased. This tip is from their website:

"Move slowly across the lawn. To reduce the volume of clippings that might cause the mower to bog down, it may be necessary to raise the cutting height. It also may be necessary to turn the mower over and scrape off the packed-on clippings that accumulate under the mower deck housing."

What is the price of a basic manual lawn mower in India?

ashankha

I have a small lawn about 150 sq ft. Looking for a cheap manual lawn mower. Where can I get a manual lawn mower in Kolkata?

Answer
Sure, it's called Shudra. Get some of those and some scissors. Scissors are easy enough to find, as far as the Shudra, you'd know better than I where to get some. You could try getting some old style Paraiyar, but everyone has "put on airs" and you'd be hard pressed to find any that actually admitted to being Paraiyar. You're looking at maybe 1000-2000 rupee to get started and then about 300-500 each time you need it cut. Do you have access to sheep or goats? That's another option. Real cheap.

lawn mower only runs with choke open?

musicislif

first of all, before i diagnosed this as being the issue, i completelty dissasembled the whole engine, and reassembled it. Ive cleaned the vlaves thoroughly and i grinded the exhaust valve just a hare as i was pretty sure there was an issue with compression and via the info ive found online i thought that would cure it. but it still does the same thing it did before i did any work, which is only starting for 2-3 seconds IF i prime the hell out of it. but i recently found that if i keep the choke wide open it will run, and run good. but as soon as the choke is closed to normal position, it dies.

and yes, ive replaced the needle, spring, and seat in the carb and have made sure that the jet in the hex bolt is clean. this pariticular carb works just fine on my other identical mower (4.5hp tecuseh), so i have to doubt that the issue lies within the carb.

the only thing else i can think of is a possible air leak somewhere, but all of the gaskets looked just fine and intact when I put everything back together. COULD this issue be a symptom of an air leak???

Any Ideas or thoughts will be much appreciated. Thank You!!!!!!!!!!
in response to mustangers answer....im a little confused. if the choke is left "open" while using the mower, allowing maximum amount of air in, this seems like it would cause a lot of unnecessary wear on the engine, not to mention a waste of gas. wouldnt this be like revving the engine non-stop?? it makes more sense to me to let more air in in order to start it and get it going, then back it off to a normal idleing speed. im only cutting the grass here, not racing it........That is how i position the choke when using the other identical mower, and it works fine that way.

And if im wrong (which i may very well be) the engine should still run, if not start, with the choke in the closed positon which it is not doing. Thanks again everyone!

Answer
Well, you've got the choke open and choke closed idea backwards. Choke open is the normal running position. Choke closed closes of the air supply and puts more gas into the engine.

Now to answer the question, I'll bet if you go get a $4 carburetor diaphragm gasket, the engine will run just fine. Have you checked the key in the flywheel? Sometimes they will be partially sheared and it throws the ignition timing off. But I am thinking it is definitely an air leak issue. Maybe the tank has a crack in it where the carb screws on? I have seen that before and the cracks can be hard to see. One way to find it if you want to go through the trouble, get some india ink (art supply stor will have it) and put on the suspected area of the crack, wipe it off and put some baby powder over the entire area. The baby powder will draw the ink out of the crack and it will show up plain as the nose on your face. The only other thing I can think of is maybe the head gasket is not sealing.

If and when you do find out what is going on, please update. Interesting question.

when did pocket rocket (pocket bike) fully develope and and started selling ?

bxr94

Answer
Pocket bikes are just modern versions of mini-bikes, which have been around ever since some kid first stole the engine from his dad's lawn mower and attached it to his foot-powered scooter... Popular Mechanics magazine was publishing plans for home-built mini-bikes in the late 1940's

Trying to build a car...I need help!!!!?

anonymous

I'm a junior in high school and i've always wanted to build a car and i decided that i wanted to start doing that now. I'm trying to find a place where i can buy all of the pieces that i need including engine, doors, exhaust pipe, mirrors, etc. I'm also trying to find it for a reasonable price. I appreciate any help that I get.
subwoofer: do you know of any websites where i can find all of the parts for one car at the same place?

Answer
Whoa!!! before we take this trip let's see where we want to wind up.
Example: Did you go for 'track' in school? First you had to learn to walk...then graduated up from there. Have you ever owned or driven a go-cart? Have you ever watched lawn-mower races?
Just like learning to walk...start out slowly & gain experience by practice. Exercise your imagination.
Read, Read, Read. Pick up a Popular Mechanics mag. Look in the small ads in the back. You may be able to buy plans for a 4 wheeled pedal car. They have ones made with bicycle wheels. Build one to experience how the steering design effects it's derivability. You'll appreciate the effects of gearing ratio changes. You can improve it's ride, handling, steering & braking by changing it's design slightly. When you're satisfied, ad an engine. Get an old worn out engine (cast iron from a garden tractor) & rebuild it. The clutch can be from a 'V' belt tightened by a spring & released by your new clutch pedal. At this point you'll be so involved (driven) that you won't be able to sleep at night. By driving it & altering its design you'll develop the 'feel' of what works & how. Cars are like people. They're all just a little different. You are. Most guys your age only knows where to put the gas & ignition key in & they never thought any further than that. A car is the biggest expense in your future. Understand it. NOW is the time. You have the Internet to do research on. You pump iron to make your arms work better. Think about the muscle between your ears. Exercise it to help IT work better. Buy a small MIG welder. Learn to weld. Pick up some old bikes at a flea market for parts. Look at go kart cataloges for parts that may work. If one of your friends think you're funny, ask him to see what he has built.
Been there-done this. I'm an old motor head. I thought America's 'Special' people had gone to sleep or were all brain dead. I'm glad to see that America lives. Never give up! Give'em hell.

Lawn vacuums?

Max B

Does anyone own a lawn vacuum, the type that looks like a push mower? How well do they work at picking up acorns from grass? I've heard that they have a hard time picking up leaves from anything other than concrete. What has been your experience. I need something to pickup oak leaves and acorns from my yard.

Answer
The success of a vacuum depends on the amount of the suction. The more leaves that are trapped in the head or hose, the less pull you are going to have. Also, the pull of the vacuum is best on light things that have a good surface area. As a result, you probably wouldn't get the results you want on acorns.

In my days in commercial landscaping, we never used a lawn vac. We either used a backpack blower or a push blower that looks like a vacuum cleaner. That was done for a few reasons.

Getting the area clean in the more efficient time was always key. Vacuums hardly ever fill their bags totally. This means that you have to stop multiple times, take the bag off, dump or bag it, put the bag on, and repeat the process.

When you use a blower, you can sweep across an entire side of a yard into a central area. Depending on how large a pile you want and how big a yard is, you could get the leaves into one pile. If you use a blower, you can direct a wind of over 100 mph onto an acorn. It will definitely along into the pile. If it doesn't, a vacuum wouldn't done it.

What is wrong with my riding lawn mower?

DH

I have a polan pro riding lawn mower and it starts up fine but then in about 5-10 min it slows down so much that it shuts off gradually so when i drive it shuts off. What should i change/check/fix? any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
My lawnmower is doing that, too. I need a new gas cap because the gasket fell out, turns out the gasket has a valve in it that lets the gas tank breathe. When it doesn't, it creates a suction that stops the gas flow. For now, I've got to loosen and retighten it about every 2-3 minutes, just about when it starts to 'cough'.

When did did the use of hearing protection become common while shooting?

Jubeikiba5

just curious

Answer
the prevalence of hearing protection did not become common all at once.

What you need to understand is the cultural and technological changes that went on.

#1 Where we shoot

Shooting outside is a lot less noisy, so as the opportunities to go out to the woods and shoot got lesser and indoor shooting ranges became more and more common the use of hearing protection went up

#2 As the types of guns changed, so did the desire for hearing protection.

It used to be people would practice a TON with 22LR firearms. Doing that (especially if done outdoors) reduces greatly the need for hearing protection. Now people who are just beginning to shoot turn their nose up at the lowly 22LR and think they all need to get a 'Glock 40'. Those who do know shooting make the decision to shoot the ammo they will be carrying. That wasn't always the case.

For a long time most police and even most people had a 38 special revolver for defense. Even when the first 357 magnums came about they were in big framed revolvers, the cartridge really didn't become popular for police use and until it was available in a medium frame revolver, which wasn't as durable. However that was okay because the plan was to have people shoot 38 special for practice and only load 357 magnum for carry, yet very rarely shoot it. When the cutting edge hand gunners of the day decided it may be a good idea to at least practice SOME with their 357 magnum ammo, they found it to be a real ear-ringer, and actually adpoted the practice of sticking empty 38 special cases into their ears as a 'field expedient' way to have ear plugs. Other shooters who were just shooting 38 special rounds would get mad but they'd end up doing the same. Some guys got a bit smarter and started to pack cotton balls in their ears. (This was for the most part happening in outdoor ranges). As more and more shooters started using real blasters, and as shooting moved indoors cotton balls and empty cartridge cases were replaced by actual hearing protection

#3 changes in technology

I touched on this a bit above talking about shooters using cotton balls and cartridge cases. There just weren't many options for hearing protection. But technology has advanced, and not just in ear protection. For starters MEDICAL technology advanced, and now we understand more about the mechanics of hearing loss. We have seen the guys who said they didn't want to wear hearing protection now live with deafness or permanently ringing ears. We know hearing loss doesn't come from a single one time exposure, but is from an accumulation of long time exposures at even just loud levels.

Further, we have all sorts of other noisy changes in our lives. In the 1940s and 50s people didn't go to concerts with speakers 10 feet high blasting out base waves. Heck personal music devices were not very loud, and they sure didn't blow the sound directly into your ear. People mowed their lawns with push power mowers, stirred their cookie dough with spoons, and raked leaves. Now people put ear-buds right into their ears and crank up the music, people mow the lawn with noisy riding tractors, and handle their leaves with leaf-blowers, and stir their cookie dough with food mixers.

We are exposed to a constant barrage of fairly loud noises. The average office employee of 1951 could go shoot his 38 special 100 rounds every month at an outdoor sand-pit and face very little cumulative noise damage. The same person today already has a ton of loud noise exposure, even by going to the same sand-pit and shooting 100 rounds the cumulative damage potential is much higher.

And then add in #1 and #2 above...The modern man isn't going to the sand-pit, he is going to the indoor range. And the modern guy isn't going to shoot 100 rounds of 38 special, he's going to fire off 357 magnum rounds (or the guy next to him is)

I am buying a self propelled lawn mower and would like to know which is better... rear or front wheel drive.?

ags_all_th

Answer
Rear wheel drive is MUCH better especially if you will buy one that has the oversized rear wheels

lawn mowers?

THERESA LE

I cant decide which mower to purchase. I want to know rear wheel vs. front wheel, and how good are personal pace mowers. Im considering a toro.

Answer
Since you are considering a self propelled mower, I have found that stopping a rear wheel drive requires disengaging the drive wheels (may be as simple as releasing a lever, but still an active motion) while stopping a front wheel drive is as simple as lifting the front wheels off the ground (pushing down on the handle raises the wheels, the same action you use to turn the mower), the wheels still turn but don't pull the mower.
Unless you are interested in demonstrating your physical prowess, the self propelled mower makes the job a lot easier, especially in the tall weeds.
For features, consider a rear bagger unit which can bag the clippings, or bag left detached can mulch the clippings.
Also think about starting options -- look for an easy start (push a primer bulb 5 times and pull the starter cord) or an electric start (battery or 110v) which takes the muscle out of it.
Or if you have a small plot, consider the new cordless electrics which are lighter, no starting, and "green".
--------
Bin There, It is helpful to read the question and who is posing it. I could be wrong, but I somehow don't believe that THERESA LE V will be begging her wife for a new one. . .

how to turn a stock Go kart into a dune buggy?

Jack

i have a stock Go kart 2 wheel drive and i wana give it shocks 4WD and bigger tires, dose anyone know how to do this or know where to get kits for this?

Answer
Not to be rude, but if you don't know how to do it, how would you expect to install it even after someone told you?

This isn't a typical "do it yourself" type project. Doing this would require fairly significant mechanical apptitude.

Depending on the size of the Go-Kart, you have to make sure the frame could even withstand increasing the tire size, the engine size, etc. Beyond physically making it work, you also need to make sure it is able to run very well.

(Example: My dad tried this when I was a kid and he just blindly tossed some massive rear tires and a snow-mobile engine on a tiny go-kart frame. Sure it ran, and it was pretty fast, but it was horrible driving it. With such a light weight frame, and rear heavy with big tires, every tiny bump and you almost popped wheelies. Also due to the size of the rear tires you couldn't turn very well due to the back tires binding up. So between popping wheelies all the time, and crappy turning, what seemed like a great idea turned to an expensive waste of time quickly. Also, the rear tires weren't obviously large to anyone looking at it, but beacuse of design flaw they didn't work. Picture a Lawn Tractor, front tires are smaller than the rear right? That was about the size difference between ours)

So, you can certainly try to do it, but if you don't know what you are doing, it will most likely end up like my dad's experiement and just be a big waste of money. (However, he did take his failure and redesign the kart and it worked very well afterwards, but wasn't after learning where he messed up.)

What is a good starter mower for a small lawn buisness?

TheDeco

I am starting a local lawn mowing business 20-30 yards and am wondering what kind/type of mower will i need to get.
I am starting a local lawn mowing business 20-30 yards and am wondering what kind/type of mower will i need to get. I am 16 and am looking to by a truck too. For the lawn mower price range up to $1200. For the truck up to $8000. Also if i were to charge per sq. ft. what is a good unit price?

Answer
If you are planning on starting a lawn business, I assume you plan on making this a long term venture? If this is so, purchasing "cheap" equipment is a No No! If your gonna commit time and effort into doing a good job for your clients, you need to have at least a mid-priced, commercial grade mower, one that will last more than the 2 months you will get by purchasing a cheaper one. 20 - 30 yards a week is alot of wear and tear on the engine, power drive, cables, and pull string as well as the blade shaft. One week of this wear and tear mowing is as much as the normal homeowner would put on a mower in a "years" time. To keep from having to fix this cheaper mower when it breaks down you need a good one. If the mower isn't cutting, you aren't making any money, and not to mention having to deal with a few irate clients complaining that their lawns are looking scraggly and unmowed because you couldn't mow it that week. You need to at least spend $375.00 - $500.00 smackers on a semi-commercial mower. There are many brands that carry heavier built mowers and these include, Honda, Toro, and Snapper. These 3 are my only choices. Check out each brand and make sure you get one with at least 3.5 horsepower with 4.0 - 5.0 being even better yet. Make sure that you get one with a "rear" wheel power drive. The front wheel drives really suck and are hard to keep straight when putting "stripes" and "designs" on the turf. Mowing the tree wells (circle around base of trees) is more difficult as well. Always bag the clippings when mowing. The customer is paying for a clean, manicured yard and that is just what you should provide. Get a quality lawn edger as well. A sharp edge on the walkways and driveway gives that added clean cut appearance after you have left the property. And make sure to blow or sweep off the concrete walks, driveway, and patios of the spent clippings that have been thrown out from under the deck before leaving (this needs to be done lastly). And when you get the mower be sure that it is a 4 cycle engine (straight gas, no mix) it makes for faster and easier work not having to mix oil and gas all the time. Hope this has been helpful and good luck on your new venture. You will get a great sense of accomplishment from this type of work, not to mention a whole bunch of knowledge about turf, trees & shrubs, diseases, and insects. The best part is the $money$ that can be made if you get good at it...

...Added Info: You don't want to charge by the sq.ft. for your services. It's better to charge by each individual property. Naturally, the bigger the square footage of turf, the more you will charge (time is money). The local economy and the type of neighborhoods you will be working in will have alot to do with your price range. Naturally, higher class homes will bring in more cashflow. A standard price would be $100.00 a month for edging, mowing, and blowing off of the property. Tell the customer that you will spend 1 hr a week doing the work, 4 times a month, which comes out to to 4 hrs total work time. Which means that you are working at a $25.00 an hour rate, which is pretty good money for a 16 yr old. This of course, is for an average size yard with around 2,000 sq. ft. of turf. If its less or more you can adjust the price accordingly (up or down).

Good lawn mowers for small yard?

Samii

I have an older lawn mower. It's had problems the last few years. I'm considering getting a new new this year, or raking the current one to the shop. I think fixing the old one maybe too much. Any ideas on an inexpensive, decent mower? I own a very small yard with a little elevation.

Answer
Greenworks makes some really good ones. Self-propelled, cordless mowers are becoming more popular, especially for those with a smaller yard like you mentioned.

Since you're looking for one that's inexpensive, and reliable, the Sun Joe MJ403E (corded electric) comes to mind, or even the Greenworks 25022 (one of the most popular).

If you're willing to spend a little more, then I think you'd really like the Earthwise 60318 (self propelled, cordless)

What is the best riding lawn mower for large yards?

Ginger D

Easy to use for 'mature' woman
Where online can I find information and reviews? What is a 4-stroke?
I could only find Dixie Chopper as a motor bike, was the answer a cute joke or is there a site where I can find Dixie Chopper to mow grass?

Answer
Murray is not sold under the mtd name... mtd owns mtd, and makes mtd.... murray is practically out of buisness and owned by briggs and stratton (great engine maker) sears mowers are not made by mtd, they are made by ayp (american yard products) they are owned by electrolux and make husqvarna.

A 4 stroke has of course, 4 strokes. The connecting rod and piston makes 4 strokes in the engine... intake, compression, power and exhaust... 2 cycles are not found on riding mowers, because 4 cycle engines are more powerful.

There's snapper, simplicity, dixon, grasshopper, husqvarna and sears to consider.... also exmark.
All great brands....

Would like to add, mtd is the cheap throw away brand, like murray, and don't last long with hard use. www.mtdproducts.com for all the mtd brands.

What brand and model of 2008 or 2009 riding lawn mower is the most dependable for mowing a large yard?

A Friend

Can you recommend a brand and model of a riding lawn mower that is safe, dependable and has a smooth ride. We have a large yard (2 acres) and my husband has had a back injury.

We have a tractor but need a riding lawn mower to cut grass around the house. Which tractor will hold up with heavy use and be comfortable to operate.

Answer
According to the first link below, the John Deere X304 is the best lawn tractor overall.

Second link is price...seems pretty typical though this particular model isn't at Lowe's. Didn't look at Home Depot.

We got an old, second hand Craftsman from a customer. That rider was used on MANY big lawns while hubby had his lawn maintenance business. It was used for 5-6 years before it quit. I wish it was still working!

Speaking only for myself, I'd look into a Craftsman. I'm not fond of Sears, but I loved riding it and miss her sorely as we now have 3 acres!

Go Kart Engine Lawn Mower Or Leaf Blower?

cooldudepo

Im saving some money to build a go kart it will be out of wood and not that sophisticated I have a 4hp leaf blower i was planing to use but would it be better for a lawn mower engine to be used and more hp

ps: i do not want to spend more than $250 on the engine if i have to

Thank You for your help
thanks for the info but im just wondering what is wrong with the leaf blower motor i really dont want to spend the money for a new one and i was thinking i have a great bike shop that i could use bike gears and chains to connect to the tires

and i will figure out the gearing ratio when the time comes

Answer
Leafblower engine is probably only about 32cc. My lawnmower engine is a 3.8 hp Tecumseh, but it's about 160cc, and would have about four times as much torque, so could be geared a lot higher for a go-kart. Major issue would be that the lawnmower engine is probably a vertical shaft, making it harder to adapt to a go-kart, but there are plenty of sites where you can buy adapter kits - Google it.

Edit: what's wrong with it is that it's too small for a go-kart. It will be revving its little guts out just trying to get off the line then go slow. Forget about hills, unless you're only going to be going down them. It will destroy itself within a few weeks.

How to make a go kart out of a lawn mower engine?

Tim H.

I want to make a go kart from an old push lawn mower engine, but I have some questions. I know that the lawn mower engine output is vertical an needs to be horizontal, but I am probably going to use the twisted belt method. I don't know how to weld, so how should I do it? Wood construction would be nice. Also, how would I mount the belt on the output shaft and axle? What kind of clutch do I need? How do I make the throttle? And lastly, how about the brakes? Thanks for answers to any of these questions!

Answer
You could use wood but, weight is going to be a huge factor. How are you going to design a sturdy, safe, lightweight and functional steering system of wood?

A lawnmower engine will work but is not going to be a speedster as these engines are governed.

Belts tend to slip and if you look at most go karts you will see they are chain driven and chins do not like to be twisted.

Maybe use that lawnmower to cut a few lawns for cash and just buy a nice go kart.

Why are lawn mowers so expensive?

Taylor

I've been wanting to start a mowing business but I've been having trouble figuring out the prices for mowers. You can buy a nice self propelled 21" mower for $300 but then if you want a 32" mower suddenly the price shoots up to about $1500. Why do lawn mowers cost so much? You can buy a riding lawn mower for the price of a 32".

Answer
They are priced as high as people are willing to pay, and unfortunately there are many people willing to pay way too much money for mowers. It's just simple economics. Too many financially irresponsible people encourage manufacturers and retailers to gouge us on prices.

Something I would recommend is buying slightly used equipment. People frequently buy more of a mower than they need or can afford and end up selling it only a year or two old. I buy almost all of my tools and equipment used. For example, I just bought a nearly brand new Cub Cadet with only 19 hours on it for $1,000 ($2,400 new price tag!).

Watch Craigslist and roadside for good, used equipment and don't support price gouging by buying overpriced new equipment.

I hope that helps. Peace!

You can buy a nice self propelled 21" mower for $300 but then if you want a 32" mower suddenly the price shoots up to about $1500. Why do lawn mowers cost so much? You can buy a riding lawn mower for the price of a 32".

Answer
Both of those prices are for "homeowner quality" mowers. Meant to be used once ,maybe twice a week to mow a small to medium sized yard.
If you do use them for your mowing business, figure on only getting one summer out of them.
Comercial mowers are way more expensive than the prices you have posted, but will last several years .
Just starting out, try to find some good used commercial mowers. Go talk to your local mower shops, look on craigslist, look for mowers at auctions.

is this normal? or did i get a bad LAWN MOWER?

Nikon Rook

please bear with me......

last fall i bought a brand new mower, and an expensive one at that

craftsman mower, braggs & stratton with 7 foot pounds of torque self propelled

i thought my days of clumps and bagging were over

i just mowed my lawn, it has been very rainy here but the grass, though not dry, i didn't think was really saturated or anything, certainly dry enough for a mower of that power to handle it, or so i thought

it stalled out twice due to clumps of grass under the mower, even when i put the bag on it wouldn't work because it couldn't throw the grass in the bag.

i paid about $350 bucks for this thing

is that normal or did i get ripped off?

Answer
That is normal with wet grass, especially if you are using a mulching blade.

If you are going to cut wet grass often, put on a regular blade which has a much smaller cutting surface and directs the cut grass downward away from the blade.

How can someone under 16 make money?

I really want a new computer. Its going to cost me about 850$ i can probably get $350 of that from relatives/mom. I'm still $500 short and wandering how i could make that? I'm good with computers, and don't really live in place where i can mow lawns, or baby sit, or do the "stereotypical" jobs of a 14 year old. Most of which are like things you probably did as a kid and are irrelevant...(no one hires a 14 year old to mow the lawn when they can hire professional mowers that have a fancy riding lawn mower, and will do it for the same price, do a better job, and faster). Or like babysitting for example, people are so paranoid these days that there is no way they would leave their beloved child with a 14 year old for a couple hours... Just trying to kill some of the 25 replies I'm going to get saying Babysit/Chores/Mow lawns/paper boy Etc.

Any Tips/Ideas of how i can make some cash would be greatly appreciated!

Prefer something i can do online.

Answer
Check out a site called cashcrate. com. I made nearly 90 bucks with them in one month, just from filling out offers and surveys. Check it out, and sign up below if it sounds interesting.

I know I'm glad I did -- I'm on my way to over $100 in a little more than a month.

Hand Push Lawn Mower - Should I buy one?

I hate mowing the lawn - hate it, hate it, hate it! A friend recently suggested that I should try a hand push lawn mower, to remind me of a simpler time and because it might actually do a better job on my lawn too.

Any hand lawn mowers out there available to give me some advice?

Answer
I personally prefer hand push lawn mowers to electric hover mowers. I feel more pride in my lawn once it's done, knowing that I've achieved that with what I'd consider simpler and more traditional tools. With that said, its not for those who are afraid of a little exercise as it can be hard work.

Ideally you want a mower with a 20" frame as it cuts down on the effort you have to put in and gives the best results on your lawn (in my experience).

Have a look at the Scotts 2000 model (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004RA3E?ie=UTF8&tag=yoga089-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00004RA3E) - this one in particular has good quality parts, unlike cheaper models I've tried in the past, that will give you good results first time and will last as long as you do!

You'll also be saving money on electricity/gas, which is always a good thing.

Happy mowing!

What is wron with my push lawn mower?

Earlier today I was trying to start my push lawn mower. I couldn't get it to start so i filled it up with gas and tried to start it on the driveway. The blade had gotten bent before. So I finally got it started on the driveway and it kept kicking up stones and hitting me, and when i started to push it forward it just turned off. Now it will not start at all. I really need some help. Thanks,

Answer
A bent blade is a prime indication of hitting something. If nothing else, a bent blade is bad for a mower because it puts the mower out of balance and will cause excessive wear between the crankshaft and the bottom sump plate, and over time will cause the bottom oil seal to fail.

Many times, if you hit something hard enough to bend the blade, you will either shear or partially shear the flywheel key, putting the ignition out of time, and/or you will bend the crankshaft, further exacerbating the excessive wear issue and affecting the engine compression. Usually a bent crankshaft will make the mower not run, however, sometimes the engine will still run but it will shake and wobble.

Disconnect the spark plug (even better - remove it), turn the unit on its side (carb up) and spin the motor over, watching the center of the blade bolt. If it wobbles then your crankshaft is bent. That's a pricey fix, usually around $100. Unless its a really fancy mower, your better off buying a new one.

What lawn Tractor to buy?

matt83840

I am looking in the $1000-$1500 range for a lawn riding mower to use on my 1acre plus property that has a slight slope. I would also like to be able to tow small carts, seeders, etc. behind it as well as attached a small snow plow. I want something that will be durable & last more then 3 years. Should i consider any of the big box store brands (troybuilt, husky, craftsman, cub, white, etc) or just get a Deere? and will a $1500 Deere be as durable as there higher end models?

Answer
Any of them will do the job for your area just fine. Generally how well they do the job and how long they last is up to you. Do the oil changes and keep the blades sharp and most last for quite a while. In my experience 90% of problems are from just using and putting away, often not even protected from weather. Only takes about five or ten minutes to clean under deck every time you mow and that eliminates most rust problems. When things need replacing or cleaning oil, belts, air filter, spark plug, do it. Never buy more gas than you can use up in two months.

How can i stop my 1993 honda accord lx from sounding like a lawn mower?

Answer
when you rev your engine, did you rev it hard?

never rev it above 4000rpm if you car on still (neutral gear) position. unless it's on running state.

if you never did that, good!

now, try to rev around 1500 -2500 rpm.
try to feel if any sound appear other than the "lawn mower" sound.

if you experience the other sound, there will be (at least) 3 diffrent sound you'll heard.
1. high grinding metalic sound.
--> check your engine oil, if too thick, replace itu with the oil-spec according to manual book.
--> if the sound continuing be heard, over haul your engine. try to replace all metals in your engine. don't forget to give your valves a treatment.

2. bass with clanking sound under your cabin
--> check your exhaust system for cracked pipe.

3. knocking engine with big vibration under your engine hood
--> check your engine mounting, and try to replace your fuel filter. if you using low quality fuel, sometime it will be indicated by knocking with your engine. if you keep it that way, the knocking will vibrate your engine mounting all over the time, and it will shorten your engine mountig useful time.
--> but, on the other hand, if you can't have a good quality fuel for your car, try to tune up your car or recalibrating your valve and timing position to adjust with your fuel condition.

if these answer don't help you, maybe you should go to the nearest workshop.

tks before.

question about lawns patches and regrowth?

Bigfoot

i have a green lawn but i have two patches 20X20 with dead grass, i also have very dull grass with soil which is showing in one area
how can i regrow it?
what products do i use?

Answer
I am a yard person who's in-law is a farmer. Believe it or not, he states that CORNMEAL placed in a spreader works like a natural fungicide in the soil. Beer breaks down thatch because the barley with sunlight decomposes any layer of material that gets in the way of watering. A mulching mower will increase nitrogen in your yard due to the break down of grass clippings. These are cheap and inexpensive techniques you can do, and turn your yard around quickly. The only other item to suggest is to get a bag of rich soil and aerate your yard, water, water, water this should give a good response. I cannot speak to the patches, it could be a fungus, insects or a soil imbalance. You should get a soil sample done by a yard service, so they can tell you the reasons for the lawn patches instead of guessing.
